If anyone here - as I do sometimes - ever wonders a little bit about the "moral ambiguity" of traveling to foreign - often third world - countries to pay for sex with women, all you need to do to put things in their proper perspective is to have watched the dog fighting feature on "Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel" tonight. The Malaysian "caning" punishment would be too good for these bastards...

It can be a pretty phucked up world out there sometimes...

Anyone that fights dogs for sport is about as deranged as they come.Dogs are really mans best friend and those bastards that abuse dogs should be punished for betraying such a noble creature.What the hell are these idiots thinking? Ofcourse these are the same idiots that do drive by shootings (etc.,etc.,etc.)They have no regard for life!

What's the difference between stepping on an ant, splattering a fly, spraying to kill families of roaches, setting traps to break the little rat batards necks, slaughtering cattle for food, hunting bunnies for sport, killing Bambi's mother, foie gras, bullfights, incarcarating animals in zoos and fighting dogs for sport?

How about my Filipino friends who love to eat dog?

I know there are many animal lovers out there in this world, and many dog lovers who spend more time and money on them then they do with other human beings. There's something wrong there.

My favorite book I read this year is titled "The Dog Fighter" by Marc Bojanowsi

When I was a young innocent catholic school boy walking miles in a few feet of snow, wearing my sister's shoes, waiting on the street corner for the light to turn red, minding my own business a dog came out of nowhere and bit me in the ass. I will never forget that. Do onto others as others have done onto you.

I was having this phone conversation the other day with a friend who told me that "pit bulls bite less people than golden retrievers" which of course had me on the ground laughing. He was all incensed about the dog fighting organization run by the Falcons quarterback. The ironic thing is that we are both big hunters and in fact, we are hunting doves and bunnies in a few weeks. We are doing a big 7 day elk hunt in the fall. I did 2 African safaris last year. I shot the heart out of a gold medal oryx in Namibia. My favorite shot was a head shot on a baboon at 300 yards while it watched me from a cliff. Stupendous!

Anyone who thinks dogs are "mans best friend" hasn't been attacked by them. They commit breach of contract all the time. How about that caretaker who was eaten by the 4 dogs in Hollywood last week? I read stories about Ch*ldren being killed by dogs all the time.

I have no problem with dog fighting. In fact, in the old wild wild West where men were men, women worked in brothels, opium dens were popular, and gambling was the major entertainment; people used to pit dogs against each other, against bob cats, cockfighting was extremely popular. I just spent some time in Virginia City, Nevada which is a pretty darn interesting place. There are bars there that opened during the Civil War and have plenty of bullet holes in the ceiling and walls. There still are pictures of dog fights, C*ck fights, etc hanging in some of the places.

In defense of pit bulls, I did know one named "Bondo" who was the sweetest thing and I would trust her with anything. But I think alligators are safer to play with than most of the terrier breeds which were mostly developed as fighting dogs.

ps I think they have cockfights in San Jose on occasion. GR, you should check it out...I'd be curious to hear that in a trip report. :P

My daughter has owned a pit bull for about the last 4 years. Two years ago,when she was about to give birth to my grandson, I cautioned her about having this dog with a new baby in the house. She assured me that she would be careful, but was not prepared to give up the dog. My grandson is now 2 years old and that pitbull is his best pal and protector. He rides him like a pony; wrestles and pulls his ears and uses him for a rug when watching TV. When others arrive at the house, he puts on a very protective stance and makes it clear that he will protect his family. I worry some, that he may turn on them someday; but I worry less that someone will enter the house and harm my daughter or her Ch*ld.

Amazing statement. I am a carnivore, so yes, I am willing to let animals die for my benefit. I do see a difference, however, between eating and getting your rocks off watching animals suffer. It's well documented that most serial killers and many other criminals tortured animals as Ch*ldren. If dog fighting and C*ck fighting are just fine, why not good old Roman gladiator fights to the death? Or the old 'Christian vs. Lion' contests? Organized dog and C*ck fights are nothing but organized sadism. If anybody wants to tell me sadism is good, I'm listening.

I have to agree with Bilko here;

Everyone's moral line is located differently. I have not trouble eating meat but dog fighting is well below my cut off point. The argument that it is in their nature is bullshit. Dogs naturally will scuffle and find their pecking order in a group but rarely seriously maim or kill each other. Stupid low minded macho culture bullshit.
