Now I am computer iliterate so I need help. I bought a new laptop in 2006 and have never had in on a plane. I was thinking of bringing LD to watch a movie on the flight to make it shorter. How long will a laptop hold a charge for a movie and how do you charge it up? Thanks.

Buying an airplane charger may be a waste of money if the plane you are flying on doesn't have power ports.

Most airlines do not offer power ports in coach. In TACA biz class, there is a power port at each seat on some planes, but not on all of them. :? The last one I was on the power ports were closed. They use AC power, which is the regular type of outlet that we have in the house. Most airlines are using EM power which you need an adapter to plug into.

NYG,
My laptop battery runs about 2 hours, maybe a little more. In coach, I can get through a movie, but not much else.

I'd also suggest buying a second battery on Ebay and charging them both up fully the night before. Once the first battery runs out, switch and you should get about 4-6 hours total. Or upgrade to biz.

A Compaq. Also there are know ports to charge the battery. BTW I just fiquered out how to the battery out

Also since I moved I did not use the laptop for about 6 weeks and the battery was Dead. I plugged it in last night and it works great. So I assume that just pluugging it in will charge it. How long should I leave it plugged in to get the battery back to full power?

Just leave the lap top plugged in for a day or so and it will be fine. Those batteries can last a while but it depends upon the number of cells the battery has. A spare battery that is fully charged can be a life saver espically when traveling. So you might want to invest in a spare battery.

My laptop (dell) has an icon on the taskbar that tells me what percentage of charge is remaining. I'm sure yours has a similar feature.

NYG,

As mentioned above an extra battery is the way to go. Most laptops are 6 ion batteries and are good for about 3 hours. You can get a 12 ion battery that will last about twice as long, but they add weight and do stick out the back a bit. I use a back up 12 for traveling and carry the regular six also. The other key is to find the wall outlet in the airport and charge up while you wait for your flight.

OBTW…I’m not a big e-bay fan so I suggest www.pricegrabber.com to find the best deal on line for a battery.
