KC,
Believe me, I appreciate the humorous spirit in which this thread was started. If you noticed I called it "somewhat" negative. Let's call it black humor if you will since it is mockery or derision and certainly not respect in which we are regarding these characters. And yes, I have bought gum from the sweet little chiclet girl at the Mariscar but I find it hard to lump her in to the same class as the other irritating characters out on the street. I have more regard for those who at least try to offer something of value in return - some gum, a ceramic whistle, a memorable photo, etc. I'm less sure of the value of freshly shined sneakers or lousy tuba music. And I have absolutely no regard for the ones who are the scammers - like Mr. Slick, Nun Lady, Disgusting Operation Woman, Persistent Hand-out Boy - who prey upon gullibility, guilt or simply a desire to be rid of them. I can overpay for some gum by a few coins and feel good or watch these characters in some amusement if I have nothing better to do. But I really have no use for having to listen to tuba music floating up to my hotel room when I'm trying to sleep late or having to stiff arm a beggar while I'm trying to stay alert to potential pick-pockets and muggers on my walk back to my hotel.

The most irritating are the cheapskates who butt in when I am talking to a chica, telling me not to overspend. It's my goddamn money and I will spend it the way I want to spend it. I had one guy who was making a scene because he said he I was driving up the prices for everyone else. What the hell are they doing in CR if they can't afford the chicas???

Nemo,
Could you possibly be referring to anyone here? Actually, maybe they are in CR exactly because they can't afford the women in the States (and don't have to apply US standards of pay in CR). However, I have to agree with you somewhat, what's the use of making a "scene" with someone who obviously doesn't get it (and probably never will). That would be as irritating as someone coming to an otherwise friendly discussion board and deliberately making posts to stir up old shit.

BTW, you might check your sentence structure. If you had a penny for your thoughts (referred to collectively) you'd only have a penny (plus whatever you had besides).

Thank you. This thread was meant to be amusing. Like you said, phuckin
newbies will split their sides when they match the names, faces and personalities to the pictures.

The chicklet girl is probably related to dear little Stephanie who is still standing under the Del Rey's A/C Units taking her punishment!

Guys,

Don't forget to check out the Gringo Gulch welcoming committee post.
You just may know some of the people.
Nemo. I agree that it is your business who you find attractive and how much you decide to pay them within reason. I do, however, have a problem with guys paying 2 to 4 times the going rate.

The infamous "LUCY" is becoming to be an irritating character in the BM for me. She never fails to ask me to buy her a drink or give her a couple of thousand colones for the slot machine.

Dino --

Glad you chimed in here. Yes, I agree with you. Lucy, (who by the way was just spotted by Zeeke at a favorite beach area) is turning into a phuckin begger. She hit me up for a meal at Key Largo and she doesn't even know my name (god willing).

Add this to my list of funny irritants in the gulch. If Lucy had half of a phuckin' brain, she would be able to receive legitament propinas for referring nice chicas to the decent gringos.

Drunk and obnoxious gringos should be video taped and played on the evening news in their home town.

Gringo scamers, if you can't afford to stay in CR go back home and get a job.

The local beggers and hustlers are a pain but nothing like the gringos who are a disgrace to all of us who try so hard to make a good impression and be a credit to our profession. We are professional, we don't try it at home :D

Oddly enough, I love the drunk and obnoxious gringo cause they make me look good in front of the girls and the bartenders.

Lucy is way too pesty. Constantly looking for drinks or money!

I had never talked to Lucy before 6 months ago, but had seen her many times. She's the oldest del Rey worker and has a long history. From the posts here, I thought it would make sense to keep her on my good side to help with negotiations with the chicas.

I was negotiating on Christmas Eve and Lucy walked up and knew the chica. I thought Lucy might carry some weight with her. Lucy started to vouch for me (although she and I had never spoken before) and I appreciated the recommendation.

Then Lucy complained about not making any money, she hadn’t left the bar in 4 days, and started to cry. The chica gave her about C2000 to console her, so I figured I would too. It might give me better negotiating power that nite or some future help from Lucy: the Queen of the del Rey (translation: the queen of the of the King). Then Lucy asks for a whiskey or tequila. Can’t remember if I bought it for her.

The chica ends up wanting $100, so I moved on (and home alone – Xmas eve is pretty tough!). So much for my investment in the guru (gura ?) of the del Rey . A few minutes later Lucy was playing the slots and seemed to have bounced back from her depression pretty well.

6 months later, over Memorial Day, she sees me from across the bar and asks for a drink. I say OK and she then orders a C2500 liqueur of some kind. I know the chicas like to buy Corona and Red Bull cause they’re more expensive than a C900 Imperial, like maybe C1500. But C2500 (about $6) just pissed me off. I felt like I was doing her a favor, and she turned it into the last favor I’ll do for her.

For the next week, she hounded me for drinks, money, etc. My attempt to win a chica mentor failed. I’m done with Lucy. I think she’s in the wrong line of work, at least in this century, and maybe a good part of the last.

hey guys, why all the lucy bashing? she is the mamacita of the bm. she is the first one i do on each of my two annual visits. she has all the info on new talent,,and had never failed to steer me in the right direction even thought she calls me federico you son of a bitch. she does drink $6 couvosier, but notice she never finishes one and im sure gets a kickback. sort of the vegas bob (compliment vb) of the opposition party. has a great body for her age, or any age, swims 2 hours a day, vegetarian diet etc. lives in a great condo with a heated pool and is the master of the hustle. granted she can be overbearing and a pain in the ass, but the smart monger will use her info to his advantage. as stated in previous posts, dont knock it til you have tried it. she is not for you young studs looking for that 2 0r 3 nut 19 yo ten but is great for us old bastards. her philosophy is to hustle us senior citizens because in most cases we have more dinero to piss away. she should get a masters in marketing.as an aside, get her to the beach and a totally different persona appears, lots of fun, no hustle, loads of energy and will save you money if your espanol is not too good, takes no shit from taxi drivers, waiters etc. just keep in mind, they all look the same upside down, and many a fine tune is played on an old violin, but you have to be a master to play it. IMHO. SOB FEDERICO

Flander:

Never saw Lucy out at the beach area but I have to agree with these guys that it is expensive to have Lucy on your payroll. What a phuckin' actress too. The crying about no work and over to the tables in 3 seconds.

She is the master of the hustle and experienced vets know this.

lol this is a funny post yes the obnoxious gringos are the worst since they should know better and it reminds me how loud and rude things can be back in the states. One guy sat near the Sports Board and kept "whooping" for no reason.

I finally saw that burned up K*D last trip, and yes the 18 year old stopped me and my buddy and said "Thank God you're americans, I had all my stuff stolen blah blah..." we laughed like hell at his weak acting.

Last trip stayed at Morazon and had none of these wacko's bother me. Granted the Presidente is nicest in CR but too many gringos and beggars to be able to relax there.

KC is returning to SJ July 4 and I guarantee you I will be taking notes on other any "new freak shows" that might present themselves.

I will try to get a picture of little Stephanie, Blood Pressure Leech, Crack Head K*D, the Black dude that just sings to you. He usually stands between KL and the DR.

I have a special hat to deflect all the water from the Del Rey Air Conditioning Units ( that will never change)

I am going to try to get the Sun Glass Guys and the Cigar Guys to switch marketing strategies by selling Sex Toys in front of the rail at the News Cafe. In about a year or so of that, they will probably be rich.

SJ just wouldn't be the same without these characters. What a place!
