I was talking to a fellow in a local San Jose Bar who informed me that Bert Reynold was going to open a new hotel and casino in downtown San Jose. Can anyone verify this or is this just bar talk? I am ready to buy a shirt.

A few months ago,I posted about a new casino project being proposed adjacent to the Grand Hotel Costa Rica on the property facing the Theatro National. Supposedly the new owners had already received an option to purchase the existing building which they plan to tear down.Perhaps this is the project he is involved in. The article I read said that it was a multi-million dollar investment.

There was a big story, complete with artist renderings, in the Tico Times about that project. It basically would have dwarfed anything in the neighborhood. There has not been a peep about it since the initial story.

You are close clam. Burt's good friend, Dom DeLuise is opening up the casino. Supposedly, there is going to be a lot of memorabilia from Cannonball Run I & II in the place. Sounds like it will be pretty cool. 8)

Well you certainly are a wealth of information or at least pretend to be.

Since you are so much further in the "know" then the rest of the board could you give us some more "inside info" such as location, expected opening date, how many rooms in the hotel, anticipated room rates, number and types of restaurants, chica policy?

Sure everyone will appreciate your efforts to bring the rest of us up to speed.

I'll tell you what I know. Dom wants to have each of the suites named after a character from CR I & II. For example the J.J. McClure Suite, Seymour Goldfarb, Jr. Suite, and Pamela Glover Suite. Dom is going to cook in the restaurant himself from time to time. As you may know, he is a world class cook. The restaurant will be named Captain Chaos after his character in CR I.

As you may have noticed CR III aka (Cannonball Fever) will not have any memorabilia in the hotel. CR III didn't feature Dom.

Obviously, all true CR I & II fans will make a journey to this mecca of memorabilia for some CR fun with Chicas!!!

If you believe the dreaded "word on the street" . Doesn't seem odd that a Hollywood celebrity is far enough along in the planning of opening a major hotel/casino in little ole San Jose, Costa Rica that they have chosen the theme, suite names, restaurant name, etc. yet not a single newspaper in Costa Rica has written one line about it?

Clam: I am sure it was just bar talk. Burt will not be opening a casino in san jose. A tanning salon/massage parlor perhaps....

Witkowski: you have a vivacious imagination. How do you recall all that from canonball run? No fires to fight in new england? Diner not open 24/7? That was somewhat funny, however, and put me in better spirits after watching the red sox beat seattle in seats I overpaid for. Would have liked to see the yanks pick up a game in the east. Regardless they picked up a game in thw wild card (I believe).

I think he confused the cooks and means Paul Prudhomme

Actually Dom Deluise being a gourmet cook is most likely the only accurate thing he has posted.

Actually Dom DeLuise is often confused for the Cajun chef Paul Prudhomme. As you may have noticed, both have a similar body shape and enjoy cooking. They also often wear "newsboy"-style cloth caps and beards.

If I were Dom I'd be pissed about getting confused with Paul. IMHO Dom is much, much cooler than Paul. Has Paul ever run around with Burt? I think not. 8)
