I just booked a couple of nights at the M for later this year @ $50/night.

They now have a poker players/casino rate. The requirement is to play at least 4 hours of poker. They play $1/2 NL Holdem, Fri-Sun 4pm-midnight, buy-ins are $100-500. If you buy-in and bust, you have met the play requirement.

You can contact Russ @ 506-869-4116 or email him: russm321@yahoo.com to book this.

I met a dude at the Nuevo Johnson that was from Wisconsin or Ohio or someplace cold in the winter, at least colder than say Florida.

He said he spent his entire winters in CR playing at a casino where if he was one of the first couple of players each night, the casino gave him some free chips, how much I cannot remember, anyway, he said if he broke even for the night and just came out ahead with just the free chips, it paid for his room at the Nuevo Johnson and some simple fare.

where would that casino have been in San Jose?

He was a bigger cheapskate than me.

Come to think of it, he would have made for a good O. Henry story.

hope you smoke em good, Orange.

Orange is this the same person that was running your tournament super bowl weekend?

If it is, he recently started having games on the second floor of the Colonial too. I played there Memorial Day he told me he has nightly cash games and a weekend tournament. if he is still there?

yes, he's been at several places, first at Horseshoe, then Paradiso, then Colonial, and now apparently at the M.

He told me they play $1/2 Fri, Sat, and Sun. If there is a game when I am there, I will fulfill the requirement. If there isn't a game going, I won't. But either way, I'm not paying more than $50/night, or $116.39 for the two nights.

I've got a full announcement regarding this HOTEL M Poker tourney and Special room rates... You must play 4 hours a day to achieve this rate and a full announcement will be made tomorrow.

The details that I was given before weren't clear, so I emailed Russ who runs the Hotel M poker game for a clarification on the $50 poker player rate.

Requirements to get $50 rate:
-4 hours play per day
-they run $3/5 NL
-min $200 buy-in
-start at 4pm

Not for me, I can't see spending 8 out of my 48 hours in town at a card table. With some shitty cards or bad play, the room could cost me $250/night.

Anyplace Russ is running a game, I will not be there....

And your right, you still end up paying more because of this little catch of forced poker play.

The rake will be 10-12 bucks an hour. So infact you are paying another 40 to 50 a night. If you are the avg player at the table then you would break even in play but be down the rake. $90 a night not bad for M if you are a solid player and want to play that much.

BKT,
Honestly, I'm not afraid of dropping to these guys. I've played with many of them before. They play very loose and most have big stacks, that's the only thing that would worry me. Loose canons, I've seen $200 pots won with a pair of 8's when there's 3 face cards on the board.

But I really don't want to spend 4 hrs/day at the table. I'm only in town about 48 hours, so I can't see myself spending 8 hours playing cards. I still believe it's a great deal, just not for me. I just wanted to post it so people know exactly what's required. I didn't have the correct info before. I thought $1/2, $100 buy-in, 4 hours play total (2/day).

I have been told that the poker game at the Hotel M no longer exists. Russ has moved to Nicaragua from what I have been told. Location...location....location
