No… After 20+ years in the brewing business (4 GABF medals), I can guarantee you it is not the water “impurities†causing your hangovers. In the brewing process the liquids (called sweet wort at that time) are boiled for a period of time that would kill
ANY impurities in the water that could possibly make you ill. In the next stage of the process the liquids are chilled and yeast is added. At this stage cleanliness and sterility of tanks and hoses is better than most hospitals. You have to be sterile or your beer does not ferment properly and will rot. The same can be said of the bottling process, if it is not sterile, you will know the second you open the bottle and/or taste the product.
Your hangover was caused by probably one or a combination of the following things:
1) Altitude, SJ is at about 4000’ the effects of alcohol are much greater due to blood pressure, thin air and dehydration due to dry air.
2) Jet Lag, how long did you sit in a dry plane before you started drinking? Did you drink on that plane?
3) Food consumed, had you eaten?, your “normal foods�
4) Lack of sleep and extra “physical activityâ€â€¦ nuff said.
5) Higher ABV (alcohol by volume) of Imperial… This isn’t Bud or Old Style… Imperial is about 5.3% as opposed to standard 4% or lower (depending on your state). Over 7-8 beers and combined with the altitude change this will give you a wicked hangover the next morning. Just ask Xman
