While in Costa Rica I heard a couple of conversations from old timers how Costa Rica used to be. The prices were cheaper and the women would do what you would want and how everything has changed. I even heard one person mention those "CRT assholes". I decided to stick by myself during this trip.

Was he blaming CRT for raising prices?

These older guys who've been coming to CR since 1970 would like to continue to be able to make a trip with a couple hundred dollar budget. Well, times change. That was inevitable as more people started to travel to CR, the prices were going to rise. In fact, CRT has probably been a small factor in keeping prices down, by preaching no cien, negotiate, walk away, etc... If every one of us who went down there twoyears ago paid $100, the asking price would be at least $200 by now.

It's probably best that you hung by yourself this trip. And the comments that you overheard? This is the very reason for that old saying: "opinions are like a$$holes....everyone's got one". To each his own, and YMMV. But based on my personal experiences with all the "CRT a$$holes" ?? Many are friends of mine, and I'll hang with all them "a$$holes" anytime!

I have heard similar comments regarding "The way things were" from several older statesmen usually at the DR.

Hell, I remember going to Antones in Austin listening to some skinny little K*D from Oak Cliff(Dallas) rip a guitar with amazing ability that he actually was better than the headliners,the likes of James Cotton, PineTop Perkins, Buddy Guy all for five bucks. Oh, by the way the K*D was named Stevie Ray Vaughn. Austin isn't the Austin I once knew.

Many of our Vet's on CRT, I,m sure have seen the changes over the last 20 years in CR and can tell a story or two of the "good 'ol days". I enjoy the company of several seasoned members on this board when I am in CR, insightful, great humor and full of wisdom and willing to share is what makes them" good peoples".

For the guys that proclaim 'it ain't what it use to be, CRT screwed things up' go chase some fat assed gringa at a retirement village back home. Lead, follow or get the hell out the way!

I cannot speak for others, but I am extremely grateful for the advice, guidance, and support by those on this board. The collective membership made things easy, and save me serious $$ as I would have not known what I was doing.

Although I stayed by myself, which is how I tend to travel, I can not put a price tag on the free advice dispensed on this board.

Good points, Professor...I agree.

One of the things I enjoy is that CRT covers a broad range of ages and backgrounds. I have met some miserable older pensioners in town but none of them were CRTers. They mostly sit at places like the NYB or Nashville and complain, just like they would be doing at the local bar back home.

Our older CRTers are generally fill of info and fun. Also the vast majority of CRTers are not locals. I only know of about 20 active CRTers that live here full time.

If he was blaming CRT for changes he hardly can claim to know the "good old days" CRT is going to celebrate its 4th anniversary in a few months and the scene, while having changed some since then, can hardly be referred to as the "good old days"

I started posting on locals board a couple years ago and since have heard various versions of this argument, it never differs much.

A wise man listens and learns from our elders and being an elder generally has nothing to do with age. In our local market the newbies are so pu*sy whipped that they are paying $$ for fat old middle aged women. They seem to be so enamored that if you even think of mentioning in a review that she has six butt cheeks we are labeled as women haters.

Most of these guy's take socializing with them to the extreme and call the hookers their friends with no clear line of separation.

This is the kind of stuff that made booking my first trip an easy decision. Bargaining is good and I'm happy to be going to a place that allows it. The old timers here are sometimes called assholes as am I and when it happens over this subject I am usually beaming with pride.

The guy's that overpay don't get how it effects the rest of us pooners and when it finally sinks in it's to late.

No Prozac, but my new practictioner of meds has me on a new script for my nicotine habit To top it off I have 1200 Gringas in town for a convention, Romance Novel Writers Convention That's another story
