American to upgrade service from Fort Lauderdale to Caribbean, Central America.

AA.com listed a roundtrip fare of $349 for its two-hour-and-50- min- ute Fort Lauderdale-to-Costa Rica flight in mid-December. Spirit's Web site listed a $120 fare, plus taxes and fees of up to $125, for the same dates.

Over the weekend, when planning trip 3 (trip 2 Labor Day) which I hope to accomplish the 3rd weekend in January, I saw that AA would be flying direct from Ft. Lauderdale. As PBI does not fly straight to SJO, FLL is my prefered airport. When I am ready to book (September?) I will see which airline offers more convenient times and a better deal. I don't check bags for these CR trips, so that is not an issue and either airline is going to charge me per bourbon (so again that is not as issue).
What I am curious to see is if Spirit is able to improve their check-in efficiency at SJO when I am departing there next (9/4). As that day I will be flying out during the dau (as opposed to 12:45 a.m.), I am cautiously optimistic that there won't be another 2 hour wait.
Anybody have any experience with the daytime departure from SJO to FLL?

Two daytime trips on Spirit out of FLL. Check in at FLL less than 15min , more than 1hr aT SJO both times. Last trip 6/24. Other than the check in at SJO no problems.

M- I was there 6/24 as well at SJO- but on the flight that left at 12:45 a.m. More than an hour and it was the only ticket counter open at the airport. But the flight wasn't crowded once boarded.
