i do not condemn CR for this,
my understanding is the US dropped statehood recognition of Taiwan for China in 1979, because after the Shah was booted, the US lost the listening posts in northern iran to monitor soviet ballistic missle tests, and china had equal quality real estate for this.
maybe some of the older crt guys might know more of this

in some ways, Taiwan was like a gringo who reliably paid their putas 60 or 80,
now along comes china, which gave hints of cien,
we all know how much the girls desire cien,
probably more for the prestige than the extra 20
like the NY bartender who considered getting cien meant she was nolonger a prostitute

sorry, back to subjects of your interest
playing for the top bartenders is big league game
one ex-HDR bartender told me she was offered a Mazda MX6 (not sure how old) for TLN, ie, she was given the car keys, and his room key

she told me she declined, and had the car keys returned to him

several weeks later as she was leaving CR in a few days for an extended period,
she told me her friend had an MX6 that he needed to sell quickly, and would take $1000 below market,
if i asked, i suppose she would have told me it is purely coincidence that both cases revolved around an MX-6
i did not inquire

another really hot bartender, short, really thin, blonde,
was given a house, 4bdrm, my guess around 1800 sq ft, just to the east of escazu, and a car (Mazda 323 or a Corolla, can't remember)

so apparently, the hot ones feel they can play for good house
i do not think cien or even dos cien cuts the mustard any more

I'll never understand why China is so hot on getting Taiwan back. Then again, I'll never understand why anyone would try to eat rice with chopsticks.

There is a group of Hawaiians that want sovereignty for Hawaii and to reestablish the Kingdom of Hawaii. If China were to back a group of Hawaiians militarily and they ran out the US Government out of Hawaii, you don't think we wouldn't want Hawaii back?

What is so hard to understand about that?

Taiwan is an economic giant. It is just a few miles off the coast of China. Why wouldn't they want it back?

"Might is right" its a Machiavellian world, we took California and Texas, and its all good no arguments now.... I understand Chinas motivations completely, I would just expect a more polite and discrete display on the part of Oscar

It was a joke. Even so, I was alive when Hawaii wasn't a state and nobody I know was worried about that. I believe Cuba was once a US dependency too. I guess there are a lot of folks in Miami who want to take it back so there goes my point out the window. Nevermind, it was just a joke.
