I have another theory. He is a Tico and the prostitute is his wife. When he went to pick her up from her john's hotel, she rejected him saying that she has fallen in love with a rich gringo. He went back to the hotel, came un-glued and went nuts. The reason they were living in the Campesino was because he's a lazy Tico and she works to pay the bills. She had a bad month at DR and they got evicted. That's the most logical thing I can think of.

I get rejected all the time (because I'm cheap) but never felt the desire to burn down a hotel.

I've never stayed in that particular hotel. My funds aren't THAT low. I would hazzard a guess that the guests there would have preferred the Nuevo Johnson if only they could have afforded it.

While "macho" means masculine in Spanish, in CR it has a special meaning "blonde haired". So maybe it is a foreigner afterall.

FYI, if people on the street call you "macho," they are probably referring to your lighter hair, the same way they call other people "flaco, negro, chino." Although I guess it's more flattering to think they are calling you "macho" like Randy Savage.
