You cannot be serious, gallo pinto con carne at Chelles at about 3:30 AM has to be the best meal in the world[/quote]

Every meal I've ever had at Chelles han been exceptional. All breakfasts though, around 12:00 PM.

As for the sportsmans It couldn't be any more accomodating & comfortable. Great respit from the rigors of war, over at the DEl Rey.

Also the Del Rey has a Thai flavored steak that has been great 6 or so times so far. :P

The flight itself on Spirit is fine, just be prepared to pay $1 for soda/juice and $5 beer/liquor. They also charge for snacks. The problem is with the check in. However, if you fly out on the 11:45 p.m. Fort Lauderale flight check-in is a breeze (or it was last Friday). Be careful on the way out, it took 2 hours to check in for the 12:45 a.m. flight out of San Jose. And at no time in either airport was duty free open.

Why two hours? I would think the airport is empty and it's easy to get through.

I should probably pay my exit tax in SJO.. Isn't there a place near Presidente that sells the exit tax "certificate"?

Exit tax certificate can be bought at the Presidente, they prefer you be a guest, or at the Bank of Costa Rica one block north, avenida 1 and calle 7, directly across from the Morazan

the airport was deserted but for a huge line for Spirit Air. I could not believe how long it took. They handwrote the boarding pass- guess the computers were down? As I had been at it my whole 25 hours in San Jose, I lacked the mental faculties to investigate. Flying them again Memorial Day weekend- beats driving to Dade to fly AA out of MIA.

Since I want to spend Thanksgiving with family in ATL area, went looking for a good rate from SJO to ATL for the holiday. Not surprised to see that DL, US and AA all wanted over 550.00 which, considering the holiday wasen't too bad.
Then I checked Spirit and got a good fare for $400.00 RT including all the fees. I booked it and since its such a short trip, I won't even check a bag.
Not bad for holiday travel, huh?

Spirit appears to have increased fares from FLL-SJO just yesterday. Now AA out of MIA is cheaper for weekend trips to San Jose.

I'm wary of Spirit Air. One thing I don't mind spending money on is a decent airline.

How different do you think the service is? I was not enamoured by Spirit but out of South Florida there is AA, Sprit and the CR airlines. If you want to leave from FLL your only option is Spirit, unless you want to fly up to ATL then to SJO on Delta. Last time I flew AA out of Miami it was not much better than Spirit at FLL (just beware the bar/reataurant in the secured area at terminal 4 FLL closes at 9:30p.m).

Signed up for the BOGO (Buy One Get One) promotion for my Memorial Day trip. Got a $360.00 voucher recently and immediately booked another trip to SJ. Bringing a wingman this time and booked both round trips at the same time. They covered all but $131.00 of our ticket. So we each paid $65.42 for the round trip. This makes Spirit my favorite airline! :D :D :D
