I intend to carry a copy of my passport but leave the orginal in the hotel safe. I heard that this will be a problem if I am stopped by the police outside the DelRey. Will I be arrested if I do not have the original passport with me?

No, all you need is a copy of your passport.

A copy is all you need, however you also need a copy of the entry stamp page. Make the copy of your main page before you leave, better yet scan it to your computer and email it to your self. Your hotel will make a copy of your passport when you check in so you can ask for additional copies at that time. Exchange money at the Casino no passport required to do that.

Good luck.

This is all true. And, just for good measure, you will see it posted on the booth at immigration as you are getting your passport stamped.

ALSO, to avoid problems, you should carry a copy of your flight reservation to prove that you aren't overstaying your visa. I often have just a copy of my passport and my CR Drivers License. The police usually assume I am a resident; and a 5 mil propina usually makes the speeding ticket go away.
