Prostoner ... glad you tried it & thanks for the review. I remember we talked about eating there a couple of times. Now , we just need some chicas hanging out to have some eye-candy

Where you go, they will follow as you proved last trip at NY and PR oh "Great One". Hope to get to see that strange phenomenon again in July. At least no one will steal your food off those tables.
For me, Shanon is a 'Bring Your Own Chica' kind of place. Not like it's far to go...100 meters or so. Make for a good but inexpensive treat for a nice lady.

Took my girl to Shannon Pub tonight and got a rude suprise.
The dishes that are 2K colone before 6pm go up to 4,500 colone after 6pm. Was expecting a 5-6K colone bill and it was almost 11K colone!! So for the same good food at much lower prices, get there before 6pm.

Hmmm...a recent innovation in strategic pricing. I was there during an evening two weekends ago...the prices were still very user'friendly. Thanks, for the warning....

I'm back in SJ, and dropped in last night around 11 pm. I ordered a boca and a soda...the price came to 2200 C. I asked the owner/manager if prices were jacked up during the evening on any 2K menu items, he told me in no uncertain terms, "No." There was a nice crowd enjoying themselves and a few unattached chicas hanging out along the back wall. The lovely Andrea from SL was even there and offered to buy me a drink. (She is a real sweetheart!)

Even though I still have mixed feelings about an Irish pub in Central America...I kind of like this place. :D

I am a regular at the shannon , so I will attempt to clear up any questions about the pricing.

Like alot of places they have a special lunch menu. 2000 colones, which varies everyday.

At shift change, around 6pm they put up the dinner menu. The dinners are more elaborate and thus more expensive. They vary from around 3500 to 4500 colones. 4500 would be for the steak filet.

So no they don't jack up the lunch menu at night. It is a different menu.

The boca menu used to be from 1000 to 1500 colones. Now it is from 1500 to 2000 colones. I ordered the jalepeno poppers the other night for 1500 colones and got 3 of them. What a joke.

All in all though a good place with good food.

Oh and by the way if you want to date one of the barmaids bring lots and lots of money for shopping.

I liked the place and want to continue doing so but, the other day I had the fish and chips !

3 puny pieces of boney fish and 14 french fries

The garnish of a piece of lettuce, lemon and tartar sauce took up one third of the plate.

First time I had the F&C in April I got a nice filet of Corvina, a small salad and a heaping portion of FF.

Get real ! pile on a bunch of salad and FF and a decent portion of Fish and you have a winner

Wait until you see the new Colonial menu. No more "residents menu."

Some items are doble! Too bad too. I used to eat there 2-3 times a week.

They may claim the menu is different but the meal I had that they tried to charge me $4500 colones for was the EXACT same as the 'lunch' special I had a few days before for 2000 colone. Not any more food than lunch just a different price.
I did walk by the other day and noticed they did have some 'dinner' menu items for 3000 colone so maybe they are still playing with the demand vs. price issues.
I still like the food, it was just a rude awakening to be charged more than double what I'd expected. But have to say, after pointing out there were no signs and I got the same plate of food I had a few days prior, the owner was very gracious and gave it to me for 2000 colone.
So I still give it a "great place to eat" for food quality, owner caring about the customer and afternoon price. Evening prices I totally understand but for my cash, can do better elsewhere.

They have adopted the "Kamur" business model.

At lunch the fries are from fresh local potatoes at dinner they are frozen Idaho potatoes. The double price is not quantity it is based on quality. :P

The only dinner item priced at 4500 colones is the filet migon which is not available at lunch for 2000 colones. So I am confused. Maybe they made a mistake on your bill that night.

Most of the dinner items are priced 3000-3500 colones and are not the same meals as the lunch specials.

Had lunch there yesterday (Sat.) and was quite please with the Shepards Pie which cost me 2000 c's. I would reccomend that you simply go before 6:00PM.
LVSteve
PS: Beer is 800 colones.

This has been a strange post. We have had rave reviews talking about the food, service and price.
OTOH, we had heard the exact oppistite from other posters complaing about the service, food and prices with one even expressing displeasure at being ripped off.
I went there again today for lunch.
One of the specials listed on the board outside advertised Irish Lamb Stew. Since I have been visiting Costa Rica since 1996 and have lived here for 4 years, I have NEVER seen lamb advertised on a menu. I have never even seen it in the supermarkets.
Well, I decided to try it. For 2000 colones.
The service was good. The lamb stew was EXCELLENT!!!!
As a matter of fact, it tasted like my Irish Aunt in Brooklyn used to make back in the late 40's! My taste buds haven't experienced that in 50 years!
I reccommed it. Go there for lunch. They have a different Irish dish every day. Sometimes it's Mulligan Stew, sometimes Shepards Pie or Lamb Stew but always good and hearty for 2000. colones.

LVSteve

I went there for dinner last week with 4 other dudes & Paco. 3 guys got the burgers & cheese sticks they ordered in about 20 minutes. Some 20 minutes later my spaghetti arrived and 20 minutes later ( now 1 hour after ordering) , Paco & another guy finally get the club sandwiches they ordered. They were definately not prepared to handle a huge party of 6. They also served cheese sticks with tartar sauce instead of marinara. Other than that... everything was cool. :P
