well, downtown Heredia is like downtown Alejuela or downtown Cartago in terms of a congested busy downtown, however Heredia also has mountains, and that area is BEAUTIFUL. it is cool, so no palm trees. Mostly evergreens and other trees you might find in the midwest USA. It looks like switzerland actually. Clean, mountainous, yet not tropical.
drive up there and have lunch at either Balbek (mediteranean food) or at the lobby restaurant in Hotel La Condessa. Also drive about 5-10 minutes further to a bar called Green Dragon in the swiss chalet hotel Tirol (spelling?)
I don't know anything about Heredia real estate however.

Ok, I have to comment on the penguins... I love that clip...

As far as Heredia is concerned, it's not bad... depends what you want...

Heredia is north of San Jose while Escazu is west so they are about 45 minutes apart. Not far in mileage but traffic is a bear going through La Uruca  .

Fairly good size gringo population and the area is growing. As previously posted is fairly high elevation and is cooler than San Jose. Downtown is good size with all the noise and congestion of a mid size city. Known as the city of flowers. Reportedly a good place to live but that is from what I have been told not from experience.

Middle to upper middle class Ticos, cleaner and safer than San Jose. Lots of University students and bars. The weather is nice and cool. Bigget issue is the traffice is the worst in the entire central valley. Several nice malls. Prices much better than Escazu.

Nice place, but impossible to live there because of the traffic jams! I guess the traffic is going to get worth, no new roads are being built but more condominiums. I would prefer to live in Alajuela, when you don't have to travel during rush hour it does not take long to get to San Jose.

I live in Santa Barbara de Heredia and like it, but my favorite spot to hang out is Alajuela. Not too far from here.
