Does anyone have an opinion, good, bad, or indifferent, about the courtyard rooms at SL. I am staying there for the first time next week and I really look forward to meeting Bill and his staff.

I stayed in a courtyard room in March and it was fine. The bar closes at about midnight after which time it quiets down.

I have stayed in the courtyard. As was stated the bar closes at 12 but when I was there that sound was barely drowning out the sounds coming from my room 8)

Its cool in the yard you will be fine.

I stayed there on my one and only time at SL.

To be totally honest, I wasnt impressed with the room overall. I normally sleep through ANYTHING, and 7pm every morning I would be woken up by something.

The other stuff was totally out of Bills hands, and Ill be the first to admit he is the first to fix any problems. I had a couple in rooms problems, and never thought anything of it, but when I brought it to his attention he gave the "Man, why didnt you tell me" attitude, which was really cool.

I was expecting the yeah we knew about it all along, just waiting for a part speech.

Anyways, the noise was definitly a problem for me, but maybe I was there at a bad time.

A little noisy before the bar closes, but they are the only rooms I can afford. (I like the older rooms anyway.) I'm booked in "PAZ" during my last two nights in CR (6/25 & 6/26).

You could just hold off another day, and get the better room. But I know, its hard sometimes :)

This depends mightily on which room in the courtyard you are
referring to. I do not remeber every one, but I will do the best I can to my recollection.

Belleza....right next to the kitchen (Noisy 7 AM to Midnight)

Esperanza....right next to the bar (Noisy 7AM to Midnight)

Buena Vida....Large room, very nice, not as loud as above rooms

Tranquilidad....Large room, directly across from reception desk, similar to
Buena Vida

Paz, directly next to guest bathrooms...Very small

Amor, entrance hallway, very small

President Suite..Very nice, much quieter since they did away with the dot matrix printer directly behind the bedroom wall. Room located directly as you walk into SL.

Junior Suite...Directly across from President Suite in main entrace hallway
Very nice room

In my early travels prior to the opening of the new wing I had stayed in 5 of the above 8 rooms, personally I prefer the new wing, for the additional $10.00 per night well worth it, or my 2nd option is the back area..Pura Vida and the 2 with shared bathroom Fiesta and Alegria, which are in the back house section and very quiet and private.

As far as the overall SL scene, Bill is the finest hosts I have ever met in Costa Rica and has made the SL bar into the Cheers (CRT Clubhouse) of San Jose. Anything you need do not hesitate to ask him,

If I got any of the names wrong, please correct me gentlemen

yeah , i to stayed in the paz....at first i felt like i got the worst room in the place ...but as my trip wore on i was ok with it (it had a cheap smell to it ) one thing that concerned me was my window was open everyday (even after i closed it everynite) with only the white curtin between me and the bar area ....it would be easy for someone to just hop through that window and get into my stuff...nothing happen and i did feel safe while staying there ...but leaving that window open ..then keep opening it everyday (even after i shut it ) just didnt make any sense to me...oh yeah...that little room marker that have on your key ring kept falling off of my key ring ...so i put it in my bag so i wouldnt lose it...anyway i never put it back on the key ring ...when i got home ..they put a extra charge of i think like 15.00 or 20.00 on my credit card...."really ..bill i wasnt stealing it " just forgot to put it back on the ring ....

I to noticed that about the window. Like you, no problems, but I never quite understood that, especially with the amount of traffic going past your room.

I have only stayed at SL once. The other times I was at the Amon (3x) or the Amistad, once. When I made reservations, they guaranteed me Tranquilidad for 3 days then Vista Del Sol in the new wing the next 5 days. Imagine my surprise, then, when they put me in Amor, across from Paz, and I thought, kind of a dump. I checked in Saturday, so neither Bill nor Johana could intervene. Venessa said "sorry, but that is where your name is." I showed her the email from Johana in hopes I might switch rooms, but someone was already staying in Tranquilidad. Once I was able to talk with Bill, he said he could move me to the Amon, which was little comfort. I didn't want to move from hotel to hotel. He did try to make it right, however. While I never got to Tranquilidad, I did get to Vista del Sol much quicker and with significant discount. My complaint here is not about the service, as they will do what they can to make things right. My complaint is that a mistake like that was made in the first place. They have an old fashioned system which requires much penciling in and erasing . As they got busier and added new rooms, they needed a computerized system which would automatically note cancellations, update waiting lists, and notify people of varying options. Oh well.

Having said that, I did not like Amor. It was very small, no desk, no closet, no usable window, tiny bathroom, very old and outdated electrical outlets, rather uncomfortable bed. It was a real relief to go to a very nice room, vista del sol, upstairs in the new wing. This is a large room, with a nice size closet, very nice bathroom, king size bed, outside view, large table with chairs and very nicely updated.

I wish Sportmens would give a description of all of their rooms, preferably with pictures, on the website. Its a small place still and should be doable.

Ciaociao

I have mentioned this to Bill and will again on my upcoming stay, I do not think this would be a huge job for his web site and would be a very welcome addition.

I am reserved at the SL for next month in a standard large. Which of the courtyard rooms are considered standard large?

I am pretty sure Belleza, Tranquildad, Esperanza and Buena Vida (Maybe Pura Vida also) all are under that classification..
