L4unme are you sure about the casino? I just asked the restaurant and desk managers if they were adding a casino on the 2nd floor and both said no.

CRT Gourmet obviously I am no connoisseur of fine foods like yourself (more of a good-food-cheap guy  ) and have been sticking to the simple items on the menu and we know it's pretty hard to screw up a sandwich, soup, pizza or pre-made dessert so your opinions are much more valuable in this regard and appreciated. The service kinda sucked today and I can only imagine things being worse when the upstairs opens, unless they are training a whole seperate waitstaff for that.

I sat back away from the street today and really had a chance to appreciate the great architecture and work that went into this place, from the exposed beams with inlaid bamboo, to the lighting, great sound system, 36' high ceiling, spiral staircases and lush greenery, it is a remarkable building. Only thing that doesn't fit IMO is their choice of ceramic tile on the floor, uploaded a couple pics.

Luck4unme...please feel free to disagree with me at any time. I think I'm right about half the time. lol From what I've heard (here we go again with heresay) the Casino plan was in consideration quite some time ago,but was rejected. My thoughts about the bar being receptive to working chicas is based solely on the Balmoral's attitude over several years towards the chicas.

Hartley is not working there, a waiter said he's in San Pedro doing something. Too bad since that's just what this place needs is a good manager to crack the whip on the clueless waiters.

I stopped in yesterday after Tope for a couple drinks and share a small pizza, which was a good snack for two btw. It was about 1/4 capacity, of course no curbside seats. They were all over the service from the minute we sat down, from bringing drinks to changing the ashtray to "how did you like the pizza". I saw at least two of the best guys previously from News Cafe are working there now. Maybe they are getting the hang of it.

I like it alot.

Ooops...

Tonight musta been off night for us six tonight (names withheld to protect innocent) - food holding at plenty edible but so sorry the service I yi yi I just have to laugh. Some diner mongers were finished and others still waiting for their food. Our waiter was friendly as hell and tried, but ouch dinner was a micro-disaster.

Hahaha first time I have split a Caesar salad minus dressing. Oh well - We were a tough bunch and a good time was had by all, by fortune of comradeship.

Nice place to hang out but looks like a few bugs to iron out still. At least I found a decent pesto sauce for a plate of spaghetti. It was good and we walked/ran out satisfied as the Calypso Players were starting up. We were halfway to Chelles lol and the guy was following wanting a tip for the ‘music’ that finally ended the reunion.

I Love Costa Rica!

Is open and flourishing. When there a few weeks ago for lunch the place was crowded and it was a Saturday. The correct name is "The Patio".

I personally think it puts the News Cafe to shame.

YMMV

Yes, sorry if this is dated, but I was there the last time I was in town and had the pizza one day and Churrasco the next of vise versa, the pizza was excellent the steak was so so. Service was excellent both days. The furnishings and features of the Plaza are really first rate and the people watching at curbside is excellent. Highly recommended.

I like the Balmoral for coffee in the morning, great sights to look at while enjoying the morning cup. The service could use some help, always slow and i always have to run someone down for the tab.
