Not to raise a stink...but yes, you did say the SL was the biggest ripoff in SJO? Do you have memory problems?

I actually think that some of the best meals I have had in CR have been at the sportmans. In general costa rican food is bland and basic but healthy.
I have been to many countries and CR is not one of the better of them for the dining experience. But food is not why I go... for man cannot live on gallo pinto alone.

Holy phuked up palates Batman... You've got to be kidding, right??

OMG...

OK, CR doesn't have the Variety of Mexico, or Brazil, but the home cooked food is awesome.

I've had some of the best meals I've had in the Americas in CR...

But, I'm latino, and like that stuff... Yeah, Gallo Pinto is not the most awesome, however it isn't the only food there.

CR is extremely rich culinarily... You just have to eat at a good place for it.

Stop eating at TGIF, and KFC, and SL, and HDR. Venture to the local places. I remember sitting in a local place just outside the gulch, with my wingman, and enjoying one of the best meals in many years, and the whole experience set us back about $10...

You can't compare!

Go visit Italy, Japan, Thailand, Greece and France and then tell me how great you think Costa Rican , or indeed Latin American , food is.
I am not saying you cant get good meals there but that is is simply not one of this world's great food cultures.
The eating of food is raised to a transcendent level in food-oriented cultures like Italy and Japan.
Costa rican culture and American culture for that matter are just not among the great food cultures.
By the way, I never eat fast food.

Next time you're in town, try the Chicken Cordon Blue at the SL. It MAY cause you to change your opinion.

Stayed at SL 3 times and yet to have a bad meal or notice anything but kind and caring service. Just lucky I guess

So I booked a July trip on Spirit for $332 total, not bad from ATL. The Spirit flight I have and that is normally the deepest discount is kind of interesting because it leaves SJO for Ft Lauderdale at 12:45am which means you can essentially have an extra night. I'll just leave my luggage locked up at the Castillo til I head to the airport around 10pm. A lot of guys from South Florida can take this flight and not miss the next day of work since it gets to FLL at 5:30am. It's not easy to go the night without much sleep but more than likely the memories and dreams give you energy for the next day at work. It leaves FLL at 11pm then arrives back at 5:30 am so you waste zero vacation days in transit. I think it's just awesome that you could leave on a Friday night and be back to work on Monday without any time away from work and no stress trying to get to the airports.

Uneventful flight from SJO to FLL on Spirit. Just wish my checked bag would have made the same flight. There had to be 50 other passingers that wished the same thing. After we got to FLL and waited in baggage claim for 45 minutes they finally came out and said there was some sort of weight or balance problem that prevented them from loading all the luggage. It was a full flight but damn people. Got home tuesday. Luggage got home Friday.

I looked at Spirit for a trip from Chicago to San Jose in early August. Spirit Air was actually about $100 more expensive than American Airlines for the round trip and fewer flight options. I ended up booking with American Airlines for about $350 for an early August roundtrip.
