I may have spelled the name wrong. Yesterday I was detoured around some construction (yes my friends they are actually repaving roads here in the SJ area) in Paseo Colon when I noticed this VERY NICE looking hotel. It is up the side street where the Budget rent a car is located.Does anyone have further info to share for our visiting brethren especially those who are hooked on the MPs in the Paseo Colon area since the hotel is in walking distance?

Hotel Grano de Oro, Calle 30 y Avenidas 2 y 4, has just recently added a large new wing and remodeled. I have had breakfast there a few times in the old patio dining area but have not been there since the remodel.

A neighbor was there last week and said the food price has gone up a bit but is still moderate and the food is still very good. Breakfast (try the macadamian(sp?) & banana pancakes) is from about 2500 to 4000 colones. He looked at the dinner menu and said they prices were 6000 to 10000 colones.

Hotel is not chica freindly and expensive. Standard room double occupancy $100.00 plus tax.

Nice relaxing place for a meal and very elegant for dinner if you trying to impress a special chica.

If these pancakes are served with coconut syrup, talk about a sugar rush. I can see an order of these before my jaunt to the MP's in the area.

Had couple friends stay there who enjoyed it...especially the food...but said rooms were noisy. This was before the expansion.

The restaurant is a hidden gem with very good chef and romantic ambiance. Great romantic lunch spot that i used a couple times.

NOT a mongering hotel...
