If you like a good pair of boots, you can find great prices on hand-made leather boots. There's a shop in SJO, but I'm not sure where it's located. There was a thread about it last year. I bought 2 pairs in Playa del Coco for $80 total, a few months ago. All leather, stitching, leather soles. Very comfortable....
Also, clay / ceramic pottery is inexpensive. Lots of different types of woodwork souvenirs are inexpensive. Some shops sell hand painted artwork for good prices. You can always find the usual cheap hats, t-shirts, coffee cups, mugs, etc for good prices. Hammocks are cheap also. And if you look hard enough, you can usually pick up "the clap" for less than cien. And that's the gift that keeps on giving!
