I was correct and that I would be given a $83 credit towards my next stay or they would send me a money gram.
Just curious, why would a hotel (or anyone) go through this trouble instead of simply putting a credit back to your CC? :?

Muy Tico.

Joanna in an e-mail said she has already close the bill and she would have to write a letter to the bank. The first thing I asked for is a credit to my CC. It's a great place to stay, but the girls that work there are really making it hard for me to get my money back.

Gentlemen,

We will continually work on our Mini Bar management to ensure good service and fairness to ALL. This is an ongoing process even after almost one year of having them in all of our rooms. Some of our guests ask us to remove them when they check in which we are more than happy to do upon request.

The reason we send out Money Grams rather than just credit the card (which would be easier for ALL of us) is that the credit must be done the same day of the charge. Credomatic, which is the primary merchant account provider here in CR, requires this for reasons still unknown to me. Money Grams are a hassle for us to send out and our customers to retrieve, but that’s the best solution to date we have found unless we can process an immediate or same-day credit or the customer is willing to accept a next-stay credit.

Best Regards,

Bill

Ps. Mini-Bars are a big headache to manage and we make minimal profits on them, however the vast majority of our customers appreciate the convenience of having the items available after the bar & restaurant closes at Midnight.

Location: I don't know where I'm going, but I sure know where I've been.
I can vouch for the fact that doing a refund to a credit card past the daily "batch" time is a real hassle!! Even here in the USA. In fact, even here in the USA I have had to offer refunds via business check as opposed to a direct card refund. I am sure in CR, due to myriad factors, it is much more difficult. I think the solution Bill offers is probably the best and most efficient one you could hope for in CR.
