Hello everyone.

This is my First post on the site and I have read a great deal of information so far and all of the posters seem very cool :}}}}

I have traveled throughout mexico Phillippines and Thailand for years.

My first trip is coming up very soon to CR :}}}}}}}

However it does seem a Bit pricey for many services. I understand very well that One must spend money to have a Nice time and I am No cheap charlie, but I am a bit conservetive on my spending not to mention in the phillippines and Thailand a girl all night can be 35-40 bucks .

Granted this Aint Asia hahahahahaha

What are some of the EXP mongers ways to cut cut back a bit on overall cost.

Which hotel offers value that is under
40.00 a night and are there ways to keep a girl overnight and or on a 2 or 3 day trip at a fair price ?????

It seems that many mongers on here, Not everyone are paying HIGH Prices for late night fun. I mean a 100.00 bucks for an hour or two is Pretty high I think ???? AM I WRONG ????

I guess I Am asking /looking for guys who DO the CR and have a great time and get it done with change left over ??????

Once again a Great board and Thank you

Mrstein

You might check my MP and bar list under the MP Bars and Clubs section as a sticky. It covers most of the budget place with many under $25 for short time. There are also some adequate but basic hotels under $40 for the budget minded traveler. CR is geared more towards short time compareed to SE asia but you can arrange to meet grils from some of the MP's after hours longer term or even TLN for resoanable prices but not SE Asia prices.rbc100

a good hotel is the Royal Dutch.

It's centrally located with great secutity. has a restaurant, casino and disco . the disco is great for a last resort if you don't score at any of the other spots in town

35-40 dollars per night

HEY!! I know just where you are comming from! From 86-05 I lived and traveled 9 months a year in Asia, India and Africa! You not only get used to the cheap prices, but the really super attitudes! Myself I just cannot spend 50$ or more for sex in a 3rd world country! The gringo-high-end scene like the Del rey, is a real turn off for me! You can find some real gems in the local low end places, but you need some basic spainish skills and lots of patience! Go back and read all of RBC100 posts, he covers allmost all of those places! When I come to C.R. I buy a ticket into San Jose and out of Panama City! The low end scene in Panama is a bit better than C.R.! And the biggest diference is that regular women in David and Panama City can be easily had for 20$, but again you MUST speak a good bit of spainish!!! GOOD LUCK

Hotels in CR can be had for NOTHIN' almost, but the question is, would you want to stay there...

Personally I prefer to stay in a nicer place...

Of course most people on the board know by now that I stay at ZB every chance i get, but that's cause I like the cheap chicas...

OH, I forgot to mention a hotel! Try the Nuevo Johnson near the mercado which is at the end of the Ped. Mall! It wasjust 10$ but now is 15! I think if you pay by the week they will come down! The rooms are OK, with large cable tv, and the guys running the place are the BEST! You will also meet some budget type women chasers there! There is another good cheap hotel near the JOHNSON, just stay on the Ped mall street and walk past the Mercado for two blocks I think, and it is a real big hotel on the corner on your right. It has been remodeled last year, and its also 15$ a night! Be carefull in this area at night! I allways carry a very big and stout umbrella! I allso have found a really cheap and really good cafe for lunch! When you come out of the Nuevo Johnson turn right and walk down and cross the main street, then walk 2 and a half blks past all the fruit and veg stands to a small cafe on the right side. They have a half dozen lunch specials every day, all for under 2$! A big cup of STRONG coffee for 50c!! But DONT walk in this area after 6pm!!!! later

Mrstien,

You have had a response from the best there is at getting the best at a low price…RBC100 is the CRT expert on low cost/best value places to monger, sleep and eat in CR! He is by no means a “Cheap Charlie”, just a guy with a regular budget and a lot more time to spend it in. We should all be so lucky! :D

My best piece of advice would be to do a search of RBC100 posts under trip reports as a start and then go from there.

CR is not Asia or PI, but it is a great option that isn’t on the other side of the world…and the CRT guys that you will get a chance to hang with (if you make the effort) will make your trip a great time as opposed to just a mongering trip.

Mendo

Yes, MP's can save you money as can the Neuvo Johnson. Eat in sodas and order the casada which will give you a pretty good lunch for 1200 colones.
You may also want to dress in raggedy short, sandles and old T-shirts. No expensice watch and a little unshaven. Makes 'em think you might be an ex-pat who dosen't have a lot of bucks.

My usual budget accomidation of choice is is Vista Linda apartments at about $140 per week and as mentioned Nuevo Johnson at $15 per night is just OK but rather basic. A somewhat nicer place for about $26 per night is Hotel Doral near the Johnson. I have posted on all in the past under hotels.rbc100

RBC, did the Johnson raise it's price from $10-15?

Mr Stein, it's hard to find the perfect hotel under $40. What you might want to consider is averaging your overall hotel cost down. How long are you staying? You might spend your first 2 or 3 nights at a place like the Johnson while you get acclimated and learn the CR ropes because you might not want to bring a girl home the first night or two and just do MPs. It's really makes you feel like you're in CR and when you walk outside in the morning and you're in the middle of the hustle of the city and it's plenty safe as long as you take a cab at night- it's only 3 minute cab ride from ground zero. I have never regretted a night or two at the Johnson. After a couple days at $15 you can move to a place that's a little better. With a CRT card you can stay at the hotel Castillo for $40 a night cash and be in a nice hotel; be right around the corner from the Sportsmans Lodge and a lot of CRTers; about 50 yards from New Fantasy; and another two minutes walk from Zona Blue. It's a very good section of SJO to be in. So my simple recommendation is buy a VIP membership, stay at the Nuevo Johnson for a couple nights, then transfer to a different hotel like the Castillo that's $40 a night with CRT card.

Ticafan, Johnson did raise the price to $15 couple or three months ago. Guess we gave them to much free advertisement. To me $10 was a bargain for the place but $15 not near as much so. For $5 more I can stay in apartment with much better accomidations and you are right Castillo is likely the best value hotel in a better location.rbc100

First off thank you guys for all the Great responses !!!!!!!

As anywhere you travel the first couple of times you need to learn the ropes. It is amazing to me that such a place is SO High for girls ????

However as most of you stated once you know yoru way around and the spots to go to and stay away you can load up on chicas across the board esp with a cell.

I do the same thing in the Phillippines and Thailand actually I always score with Non bargilrs most of the time vs Bar girls a bit harder yes but the advantanges can be huge.

I am assuming the same can be done in CR with a bit of knowledge and language skills.

Once again THANKS

Mstein
