I tried to search for this topic but the words "cheap" and "beer" didn't really narrow it down. Y'all have any recommendations for a cool bar, tico, gringo, whatever, with cheaper than average Imperial? I did my first trip last August and basically drank in all the expected joints. Actually, who the hell I am kidding, I did most my drinking at SL! Either way, I'm planning my next trip and was just looking for some recommendations?

Doof,

One option for the beer budget minded bud would be, Harry's Poas Bar. Located up the street from ZB turn right at the top of the hill and about 50 mtr on the right. Dark little hole in the wall, he is from Chicago originally, lots of Cubs/Bears pictures. Imperial- 750 cl

Also try the Garden Restaurant bar at HH 2 for 1 specials I believe it works out to 600 cl per beer. Well drinks run 600-750 at HH.

Try the bar Embajada on Avenida 1. There is also a Tico bar/restaurant on Avenida 3, 50 meters west of Calle3, south side of the street, that serves cheap Imperials. Sorry forgot the name.

Thanks guys, exactly the input I'm looking for. I haven't booked anything yet. I'm still waiting on my wingman to figure out his s**t. Plus, I'm want to save enough $ for a 10-14 day trip. I'm a young buck and an office grunt, so time and money is a scarce commodity, hence the cheap beer pregunta. We did a 6 day trip last August and I feel that I didn't properly conquer CR. I want to make sure I have enough time and money this time around. Once again, thanks for the input.

I agree with the earlier post- Harry's Poas Bar. Happy hour from 5-7 p.m. daily is 500 colones Imperial. The food is also good (although I only ate the chili con carne during both of my visits my associate had a pork chop and liked it). They also sell peanuts, which may be of no consequence but that same guy ate at least 8 bags.

Embajada mentioned by ID above is one of the best. It is a few blocks West of Del Rey on North side of Calle 1. Also a good place for chica watching at end of work day as many locals go there. There are many outher little local bars around town with cheap beer including area around Calle 6 Pensions.rbc100

we go to 6th street to kill some daytime hours and look for that gem among the nasty ...(cant beat 6.00 us for some pu*sy) but you must search and then if you find one you like you are doing the deed in a nasty room....but back to your beer quest ..while my friend was chatting with a few girls in one the places a few girls that were over 200lbs were eyeing me up so i ducked in a bar and the beer was like 80 cents or at least under a dollar ..just walk on 6th street and look for where the old tico men are drinking ..good sign they have cheap beer !!!

Sorry for the lack of info. But, when we went to those 3 bars ( all the taxi drivers know it ) in San Pedro that all the college K*ds hang out, the beer was pretty cheap.

Im sure some peoples can give the names, plus the atmosphere was kind of fun

a good cheap place to drink is Bar Camelot, its on the map. Cheap beer, and everyone once i a while a girl will work in worth doing- rooms upstairs, 6000 Colones, I think. Also, the bartenders, while they do not work the other side of the bar, are certainly game for a little game, if you have game  . The trip before my last I met one and had a nice romantic dinner, and TLN..no payhment was asked for, but I left 30k in her purse, for which she she was more than happy..

Yep, gotta agree with Psychman,

Bar Camelot is a cool little place and it's on the CRT map. It's up some stairs so keep a lookout, also there is a little bar around the corner from it ( don't remember the name) where I had a beer also.

Can't beat the price for pu$$y at Camelot also! :D :D
