When they are open. :P

Seriously, I've never seen a huge crowd there. It's a relatively large place.

Doc,

I recommend you check their hours before you go. I believe they are closed from something like 2 pm to 5 pm in the afternoon. I made that mistake a couple of times. Orange is correct; I've never seen a large crowd there, and it is a fairly good sized place. They do have a website, but don't recall what it is. I'm sure a google search would turn it up.

I took a taxi from the SL and then walked back mostly uphill. It was about 6 blocks. I thought the baby backs were very good. Also the beans and the potato which was the size of an egg were good also. Had 2 glasses of ice tea and the tariff was about 12,000. I will return

JR's is decent and have eaten there everytime I went to the zoo. Neighborhood is a ghost town in the daylight hours. There used to be a big swatstaka(sp?) painted on the wall on the walk there.
If your wanting good ribs though Tony Roma's in Escazu smokes that place hands down.

Ate there today (usually once per trip) and as usual, they didn't disappoint. The only problem was that we got there around 1pm and there WASN'T a free table in the whole place.

There was what looked like a big business lunch party. They used 9 tables (I counted while waiting) put together to make one long table in the middle of the room. The other side of the room was also filled with diners, so we had to wait a few minutes.

I had never been there before when there were more than 10 people inside, besides us. Waited 5 minutes and was promptly seated once a table opened up.

On a side note, they got rid of the weekday lunch special they offered in the past. It used to be one choice of meat and then 1, 2 , or 3 sides for 3k, 3.5k, and 4k colones, respectively.

Now they offer a lunch special (11am-3pm) with one meat and 2 sides at 6k colones. :x (3.5k to 6k is quite an increase.)

Best thing about Hotel Castillo is that the owner is American and he doesnt charge a chica fee.

How they get Castijo from castiyo must be the regional dialect. I like my fake Italian accent. Chicas seem to love it.

Kenny (wingman) and I fell in to JRs with a Tica friend of mine. She kept saying in phone calls before my visit that she wanted me to chinear her! She was about a 6 on the scale. I found out in my Costa Rican dictionary that chinear means to spoil.
Long story short. She did not like meat. She did not like the potatoes. She did not like anything but a glass of red wine (any year).
Kenny and I scarfed down the ribs, beans, and cold slaw.

Soon after the meal she wanted to show us her kind of place. Not!

Una vuelta no mas and take us back to our rooms missy. We have other fish to fry (Sportsmans).
JRs was good again. Too bad our company was not.

I just remembered that I was going to post this but forgot.

You get a whopping 50% off your whole check at JR Ribs if you use a CREDOMATIC credit card. Can non-residents sign up for one?

That was a CREDOMATIC promotion that included a number of restaurants around town. As far as I know it expired on June 1

The 'y' and 'll' sounds differ around the Spanish speaking world. They also say "jo soy" and you unlock your door with "javays" in CR.
