open currency trading as high as 539.9 to 1.

I am surprised that it keeps going up, considering how the dollar is in the toilet. It is less than 2000 to 1 in colombia at this time....

Much better source is the CR Central Bank which collects the rates for every bank daily and publishes them here.

http://indicadoreseconomicos.bccr.fi.cr ... nilla.aspx

The published numbers are 100% accurate for that day as I have checked the rate for my bank and then went there and exchanged money and got the exact rate.

Fluctuations!!!

I had a bunch of Colonies I needed to exchange, so I went to the
currency exchange window at the local bank.
Short line.
Just one lady in front of me. . . an Asian lady who was trying to exchange yen for dollars and she was a little irritated . . .

She asked the teller, "Why it change?? Yesterday, I get two hunat dolla fo
yen. Today I get hunat eighty?? Why it change?"

The teller shrugged his shoulders and said, "Fluctuations".
The Asian lady says, "Fluc you white people, too!"

The Nuck

I previously took several thousand dollars in cash and exchanged for colones in a bank. Now I always use my ATM card and withdraw about 100,000 colones per day. I get the best exchange rate, no lines, no fees and do not have to carry around large sums of cash.

Absolutely the best way to go.

The rate you receive is the rate your ATM card issuer uses for that day. There is no way of knowing, in advance, what that rate that will be and no guarantee that it will be competitive.

Fifties usually are not a problem especially at banks, hotels & casinos. However like all U.S. bills make sure there are no rips, holes or marks on them.
