I am asked more than often where can I go for breakfast. Right now one of the best I have found is the steak and eggs at the Colonial. The meat is tender and usually good service. Price around $ 4.00 . I love the SL as well in the morning but I am an early riser and their kitchen opens at 8:00 which is to late for me. Take Care and be safe, H.

I am a big fan. I can be found in the Colonial for many breakfasts and dinners.

I paid the gringo price at Colonial once ($28 dinner) and have been hesitant about going back. How do you get around the gringo price hike?

They have two menus. When they bring you the fancy menu with the hard cover tell them you want the resident menu. I do not think they have different menus at breakfast just at lunch and dinner.

I had lunch at Colonial today. Calamari (tempura style) Corvina, bread, baked potato, veggies = 4 mil plus ivi.

2 nights ago: doble stoli, 2 Heiniken, Filet (big, wrapped in bacon with mushroom sauce,) baked potato, veggie, fresh bread. She had: Centenario con coca, 2 Baileys con leche, (not mine, she got that later) New York Strip, papas puree, veg, fresh bread. All for $32 US.

6 drinks, 2 steaks with sides for $32!

Ask for the small menu.

The grand piano player is fantastic and can play most requests.

Great food and service and the chicas love it!

Good Morning gentlemen, It seems that the Colonial has changed to 1 menu and has raised their prices as well. I ordered the ceasar salad with chicken and was quoted 6,000 colones. I opted for the chef salad for a better value and enjoyed it. H.

Budlite's got it. If you sit at the bar they always give you the bar menu. I did not realize you can sit at a dining table and use the bar menu. So you can? I think it would be a nice place to take a chica for a little din din in that case.

But if what Herman says is true, what a shame.

They have good food but it's expensive. Last time I was there I know I spent more than $30 for dinner. The breakfast is reasonable. However, I stick to the SL for breakfast. Try the johnnycakes! :)

YO Breakfast:

I still remain quite suspicious about an upgrade in the Colonial since I placed them on the not to go to list. Perhaps they have changed since I reluctantly ate there last year (phew) so I will try it again this next trip.

You are correct about two separate menu offerings......that has changed several times over the last three years. Those people have pissed me off several times.

The atmosphere could be the best place to dine in the gulch if they would adhere to good service, decent food and of course keep the piano player from getting too tipsy.

Back in 2000 to 2002 one could go in at 2AM in the morning and get good food, service and relax from the women constantly hitting on you......not a problema for old Circus ......but the chicken veggie soup was good.....without chicas of course.
