To those that were unaware Tuesday is(if I was currently in CA) VE Day.

The end of the war in the European Theater. Let's not forget those that served and gave the ultimate price.

Please tell me we have a least one Vet of the "War" out there reading this board and smiling at the thought of the little darlin he enjoyed in CR.

Thanks for all you gave.

Great post HolaB. Couldn't agree more!
My grandfather was at Guadacanal and later, Iwo Jima. He was in the SeaBees (Navy construction). From what my mom says, he was a wild one in his day

HolaB,
We have a number of CRT members who are veterans but I doubt if any served during WWII. If they did they would be in their 80s now.

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Bill Guarnere of "Band of Brothers" fame in Las Vegas in 2005. I saw him walk by using crutches (he only has 1 leg) with a group while I was playing blackjack. I made up my mind that I would forever regret it if I didn't take the opportunity to meet him.

I found the group sitting at a snack bar and introduced myself.
Wit: "Hi, sorry to bother you. Are you Bill Guarnere?"
BG (in his deep, gravely, south Philly voice: "Yeah, I'm Wild Bill, who the hell are you?"

We had a nice chat for a couple minutes (my dad was a POW in 1944) and he pointed out another "Band of Brothers" member (I missed his name) and I believe one of the group was also Major Winter's son (Bill's voice is a little hard to understand).

That was definitely the highlight of my trip.

Wild Bill Guarnere (no, I'm not the other guy in the pic).

I had the honor of being invited to a WWII veterans reunion. This group of fellows comprised a medical evac unit in the Pacific Arena. These veterans have meet once/year since their service ended. The unit was a medical evac unit stationed in the south Pacific. As the friend of a gransdon of one of the veternas I was invited to a reunion in 2004, which was held in DC. Our activities included a visit to the new WWII memorial. I had the distict pleasure of providing wheelchair transportation to a vet for the period of time I was in DC. I still recall his tears as he gazed at a single red rose left sitting on the cold marble as tribute to some other's loss.

Bless those who served all.
