Thanks to all who chimed in on my request for info on the Copa

Spent two nights there Friday and Sat night Apr 27 -28. Took the one bedroom suite paid 159 minus 10% CRT discount. Arrived around 3:30 pm easy check in. Place was very quiet. They are doing some renovations there and the workers are not controlling the debris and dust so some of it was tracked into the room unwillingly, so a bit of a minus and nuisance here. Room was just right for two mongerers sharing digs short term. Was issued a regular key to the room was very basic and anyone could have broken in within 5 seconds with a steak knife. I was issued a key for the safe even though it appeared to have a combination code option. Was charged 3 dollars more per day for the safe which I thought was a bit wrong considering the room price. Should have had electronic door and safe access for these prices IMO. I took the comfy bed in the interior and wingman took pull out couch with TV, kitchen and "ocean view." Calling it an ocean view is a bit of a stretch. Yes technically you can see the ocean through the foliage but not quite the perception one has in mind. Room was air conditioned well. Full size fridge well stocked with beverages and quite reasonably priced. Major downside in the shower - hot and cold running water was impossible to regulate so we (and disgruntled female guests) would get scalded one minute and frozen the next. There was no way to rectify the situation and when mentioned at the front desk it was shrugged off as no muy importa. It wasn't a room specific problem as other guests griped about it as well.

Poolside was cozy and friendly. Water was good, not many guests, a few Ch*ldren with their MILFS. Little tiki bar, reasonably priced, friendly staff. No P4P action. There were girls there but already occupado. There were also a number of what appeared to be of the high priced call girl set - older, yet perfectly sculptured bodies lunching with the rolex crowd - I even heard some negotiating from the balcony - 1000 a day!

Saturday afternoon we chatted with some goombas and got introduced to a local guy who made a phone call for chicas. 30 minutes later I had a hot little blue eyed Colombiana from Me-duh-geen on my arm and later elsewhere.

Walk up to the BB was no prob. Very convenient location.

The chica - fee thing was a bit of a confusion. After showing the VIP card I was given a receipt that said " CRT - No Charge" When we checked out the desk personal claimed there was a mistake it was $10 and that this would be added to my bill. I found that kind of incredulous as we had guests all weekend at various hours with various personnel with the same results. I asked to speak with the owner and he was a gent about it andwe were able to work it out, but I am still kinda unclear about the exact policy is now.

Late 1pm checkout no problema and hung out even a bit later swimming at the pool and wingman used outdoor shower.

Only ate breakfast there once and it was very very good. Coffee to die for but that's not saying much in CR.

Bottom line I would give it a strong 7 overall. Kinda pricey for what it was, but it was comfortable enough to repeat especially with a newbie who you want to ease into the scene.

PHX,

Thanks for the detailed report on Copacabana. That's the type of info that helps the rest of us decide where we want to stay.

I hate to beat this to death again--but there has always been a problem with the CRT discount , reliable service, consistent plumbing, and policy at the Copa. I have not stayed there in 3 years because of this continuing BS. First, my problem/ confusion was with Leo, who is now gone. Even for a turd world country(with gringo owners!), the policies at the Copa suck, and I've been going there since Larry and his partner owned it. Why anyone continues to go there is beyond my comprehension, when there are other alternatives--but, to each their own, stay where you want and promote what BS you want

I have a feeling the shower issue is a constant if you stay in "downtown" Jaco. I stayed at the Padadise (for 1/3 the price) and had more or less the same issues. My impression is the Copcabana is prob worth 1.5-2 times the price at most. Paradise pool is more of a puddle, location is 3 doors down, same ideal location for BB and MB.,

I also went home with a chica one night into a little village about a 5 min cab ride away, her shower had the same temp regulation problem.

I think the reason it's worth more is because appearance to chicas, rooms are prob nicer, but if budget is an issue, i would suggest paradise for a first timer in Jaco.
