I will be attending the International Gaming Conference & Expo in SJO during the first weekend in May and it is being held at the Intercontinental. What can you guys tell me about this place?

I am only staying there for two night and will be staying at the SL before the event and at ZB after so if the Intercontinental is not chica freindly, it will not exactly ruin the trip but I am curious. It looks like a very nice hotel so I am not getting my hopes up regarding their chica policy.

Chica Friendly Hmmm How is that questioned answered.. Ok let me lay it out for you best I can...

Hotel Real Intercontinental directly across the street from Multip Plaza Mall in Escazu... you can walk across the street into the hotel... Have stayed there on several occasions company paid....

HAVE STAYED THERE 3 TIMES BEFORE!

Also I was there just 3 weeks ago for 1 night... It is a Very Upscale Hotel, in their opinion--- that needs a lot of renovation as far as their rooms are concerned. Truly found their rooms nothing special aside from their high end Heavenly matresses but the rest standard biz class hotel.

If you stay on the club level you get a real nice complimentary breakfast best I've had as far as free buffets go, and free cocktails and appetizers between 6-8 pm nightly also from 6am till 10PM all non alcoholic drinks, excluding specialty coffee are free of charge for club level guests you need a special room key to access the floor. Free wireless Internet club level near the lounge area but hardwired 12.95 per day in the room....

Balance of the Hotel is your standard fancy biz class hotel, with large convention area fancy lobby huge lobby bar with live music every night and 3 gourmet restaurants and 1 standard buffet / coffee shop type restaurant.

Had dinner in the Italian Restaurant probably the worst meal I have ever eaten out in my life.. .You can scratch that off the to do list. I mean service was outstanding but food wise, I'd rather eat anywhere else and I mean that JUST BAD!

Now the important stuff,

1st time there I was told there was a guest fee and they were literally non to happy about me bringing somone in there but let it go...

Second time I registered a LTF of mine even though she was not with me when I registered... were were stopped at the Elevator
when we showed up the Security guard gave me the no guests line, I flatly stated she was registered gave him her name, they used the walkie talkie then apologized and let us pass...

This Trip
Nobody stoped me THIS TRIP walking to the elevator or to the room or to your hotel but then again the girl I brought back looked   very respectable......It would not have mattered as I had a problem there in the past as stated, but since they charge nothing for dbl occupancy I gave the front desk a fictious name of a girl and told them she was coming later.. The Security guard looked us up and down and decided to say nothing. but he could have called it in and would most likely would have let it pass.

Bottom line they are in my opinion Chica Tolerant but you have to play a bit of a run around and its a long ride from the gulch up there... If you can wait a day do so, its a real pain in the ass.

I agree with the head capo. I stayed there for my 1st CR trip in Jan. '04 to attend a Latin American aviation security conference (oxymoron I know). Spent every night at the BM/KL and used the Morazon Hotel once or twice for a quicky. You will enjoy the eye candy at the mall next door. Great pool too. Wile Coyote

Hotel Intercontinential is out in the burbs and does not lend itself to the "hobby". Try and get away from the group and take a taxi to the gultch. You can always go to the Asia with whatever chica you select from the DR.
