3 more days till I arrive and head straight to DR!!!!

My bank is telling me that travelers checks are not excepted in many places due to counterfieting..any thoughts...I need enough cash for the obvious and then some for the poker games

also I have it mostly planned out. DR for 2 nights...then ZB hotel for 3....going to do the 1/2 day harley tour, ATV tour and mabey one other and then find a good poker game....After checking this site out I feel that the must sees will be Pantera Rosa, pirates club and club idem in additoan to my stay at DR and ZB....Please help me out Im looking for the perfect 5 days....any changes or other things I should be doing with my time and money??? Thanks again guys....I really need a great time...see ya soon!!!!!

Forget traveler's checks. Bring cash. Figure out how much you'll need and then bring 50% more.

Seriously, just bring a lot of cash. As soon as you get into your room, lock it up in the safe and only keep on you what you'll need for that session/day/night when going out. If you don't bring enough, you can always take out cash at an ATM. Use a bank ATM or one of the two at HDR. Tell your bank you will be in CR so they don't decline you when you try to get cash.

Also, don't try to plan the "perfect" 5 days, because THERE IS NO SUCH THING ahead of time, since everybody's tastes are different. When you get there and you feel the place out a little, you'll realize what you like most. Plans change quickly.

I like to take some T.C.s My atm stopped working 2 trips back . T.C.s saved my ass. My bank (Wells Fargo) gives them to me for free so why not. I would take a few for back up. I also used one in Montezuma at the supermarket when I stayed longer than planned(no atm in town). The way I see it why not take a few for backup. You can always turn them back into the bank at home.

You've actually gone home with money ???? No kidding, I had to borrow $27 departure tax one time from my friend because I already hit my daily max on the atm. The boys still give me crap everytime we head to the airport about that one...

I vote for cash as well...
I've had my bank stop my card even when I informed them where and when I was going...

IMO travelers checks will be a hassle. Bring stacks of singles and fives for tipping and cab fare, pay hotel by credit card.

Keep in mind, the Del Rey chicas now only accept $100 bills (but the serial # can't start with CB).

I take a few thousand in cash and carry a credit card with me..when I run out of money after 4-5 days I go to Amon Plaza Casino, They will give you unlimited cash on your card..I take 1000.00 every couple days for the remainder of our stay.
