I used Interbus several times during my stay last year and I think it's the way to go. Sure, it's a few dollars more (just a few), but it's much more convenient and comfortable, and considering some of the roads in CR, that's a big issue.

TM,
The airport shuttle ($6) is less than a airport taxi ($18-19). I just booked it for Memorial Day weekend.

It sounds like you're talking about the shuttle service around the country. In that case, yes, it's more expensive than the public bus. But if you're going far away, like Flamingo or Limon, I would just fly Sansa. Interbus is about $30 each way and the flight is $70-80, but you save 4 hours and the bumpy roads. Or take the public bus for like $6.

Gracias Solo, I guess you just pay with a credit card online?

PL,
You don't have to pay in advance. You just have to give them a CC number to guarantee your reservation. You can still pay in cash to the driver (but have exact change). If you don't show they will charge your CC for the fare.

I once had planned on using the INTERBUS for the return trip to the airport.....certainly it's a good deal. However, when they asked for my credit card number, that ended it for me :( .....just wasn't ready to hand over credit card info. :?

Arrived at SJ airport and cleared customs about 2 pm on 2/23. Had a reservation with Interbus, took about 2 minutes to find the guy with my name on his sign, then about 8-9 minutes waiting for the van. The wait wasn't bad as there was actually a line to pay for a taxi. I was the only passenger so I was taken directly to my hotel (HDR). Was in my room by 3:10 pm. The ride took about 20 minutes longer than usual due to "mucho trafico." All in all a good deal for $6. Will use them again.

I used Interbus several times during my last visit, including an airport pickup, and they were great. I also rode the tico bus system for a trip to the rain forest and back and that was fun, too. But if you just want to get somewhere faster and in relative comfort, Interbus is worth the extra $.

Also, paid $15 for a cab from HDR back to the airport (not bad), will try Interbus for return trip next time too.

Has anyone had a 'bad' experience in using the Interbus services?
Like Zebra, I'm a little concerned about using my CC online to book them for a airport pickup :?

Interbus has been around for years. I would not worry about giving them a CC number. If they had been screwing around with that info Visa, MC, etc. would have cut them off by now.

Why do you have a credit card if you are afraid to use it?

I suppose it comes down to "what degree" you are comfortable with using your credit card. For example, many guys opt to use a credit card at a strip club....I would not. Just because I "have" a credit card, doesn't mean I should throw caution to the wind.

No doubt, INTERBUS is a reliable, trustworthy outfit. After having more positive feedback on this thread, I would have no problem giving them credit card info.

I meant Interbus is more expensive than local bus system. Of course, much cheaper than taxi, which I think is the point of this thread. Onward!

Hey CRT'ers , newbie here. I'm trying to get Interbus to drop me off at Hotel Zona Blue from airport. They said they will not drop anyone off at bar, only to a hotel. This will be my first trip and need to know which hotel is close to ZB, so I can get dropped off and walk there. Is Clarion hotel close by? thanks for any help. BTW I will be there 3/24 to 3/31 with wingman.

The Clarion is exactly one block south from ZB and is the closest hotel (although the driver should drop you at ZB since its a hotel and says so on the sign outside).

Also I tried using this service for my last trip in Feb. My flight was late and the line at immigration was the longest I have ever experienced. Needless to say when I went looking for the driver (close to two hours past ther scheduled meeting time) he was no where to be found. After about ten minutes shaking the touts, I took a taxi in. To Interbus' credit, I e-mailed them of the missed connection AND THEY DID NOT CHARGE ME. As a result, I will probably try them again.

Hope this helps,
Lance
