I always go and look up the top latin music on the charts and download it to my ipod. I have portable speakers that plug into the ipod. You can buy a pair at places like 5 Below for $5.

Yes, the Chicas seems to like music. You can always turn the TV to the video music channel....

Not all too sure who exactly is popular at the moment, but as has been posted many times, the "Magic CD" that one of our members (or maybe it was from another board) compiled once upon a time seems to be a perennial favorite and very effective at setting the mood.

Funny, the first time I heard it I discounted it as a bunch of romantic schlock, but many of the tunes have grown on me over time (probably has a lot to do with the VERY pleasant associations my brain now makes with the music... :D ).

Anyway, here's a track list once again for those interested:

1: Te Quiero Tanto Tanto - OV7
2: Vuelve - Ricky Martin
3: Lloran Las Rosas - Christian Castro
4: En el Muele de San Blas - Mana
5: Rezo - Carlos Ponce
6: Corazon Partido - Alejandro Sanz
7: Mi Historia Entre Tus Dedos – Franco De Vita
8: Usted - Luis Miguel
9: UNKNOWN – Luis Miguel (?)
10: Como Dueles en los Labios – Mana
11: Decir Adios - Carlos Ponce
12: Amiga Mia - Alejandro Sanz
13: Te Extrano,Te Olvido,Te Amo- Ricky Martin
14: UNKNOWN - Yuri (?)
15: Volver a Amor – Christian Castro
16: Cosas de la Vida - Eros Ramazotti w/Tina Turner

Would be very cool if someone could finally ID the long elusive tracks #9 & #14.

I also notice that a large amount of girls like bands like
Linkin Park
Korn
Pink Floyd
I had a dull Colombiana turn wild when my mp3 player randomly jumped to a Linkin Park song :D

A tica from the DR once looked at me with a strange expression on her face and told me "All the gringos have the same music." I suppressed a laugh and quickly changed the subject.

Raegetone is always popular but I found Shakira to be less so with the chicas, even in Barranquilla, Colombia, her home town. Jealousy, perhaps?

Three other suggestion:

Juanes, a Colombiano very popular with the chicas. His third CD, I believe titled Mi Sangre, as a good one.

Juan Sebastian, a Mexican singer. One girl told me he was once married to a tica but I can't vouch for that personally. He has dozens of CDs out but you'll do best looking online rather than US music stores since he popularity has not stretched much north of the border. Secreto de Amor is a good one.

Marc Antony on the other hand, another good one, is popular in the US as well as Latin America. The girls love him. He also has dozens of CDs out. I believe Sigo Siendo Yo, one of his most recent, contains the popular duet with J Lo, "No Me Amas."

I have used these CDs to great effect while there. I have even found they set a good mood back home. It almost makes spending time with a gringa more tolerable. More often it makes me long for Costa Rica even more.

You can not lose with playing Salsa.

Colombianas will respect you a lot more if you have at least one Groupo Niche cd.The Dominicanas typically like Merengue (Tono Rosario) with the younger chicas digging Reggaeton ( Daddy Yankee, Don Omar).
I have not really figured out the average Ticas taste in music yet.

Ultimate Reggaeton Collection. Now Esto es Musica Latino, Now Esto es Musica Latino 2, & Now Esto es Musica Latino 3. These three are the current Latin hits that contain various artists. From Daddy Yankee to Marc Anthony.

My MP3 also contains about 70 albums of various types of music. Rock, blues, country, new age, Afro Celt, Native American flute, a real mix. When we get to the room I let her pick what she wants to listen. I also bring candles and incense.

I burn Cd's form the Now Latina series and give them as tips. The girls love them and it costs about $.10. As I said before, I hand them the CD that we listened to and tell them to think of me when they play it. It always gets a smile.

Health & happiness..

Living down here as I do, I get way more of that stuff than I can handle. If I bother with music at all I just get something I can tolerate and play it softly. I am personally not interested in creating a 'party' atmosphere. I would rather she pay attention to me than 'groove to the music.' I realize some guys have a different style entirely. But if you don't like that music or don't want her paying more attention to the music than she does to you, remember that you are paying her for her company, not trying to schmooze her into bed. It doesn't hurt to make her comfortable but you can go overboard. If she can't enjoy the nasty without Shakira or Reggaton playing in the background (or foreground) you probably made a bad choice.

I travel with a lot of Latin music because that is all I ever listen to. The one group that EVERY chica from Nicaragua to Rio loves.....hands down......Aventura. Starting with "Obsession".
All the Nicas and Ticas also want to translate one of the songs when it comes on. It is about a woman who gets pregnant and the father goes to jail while the mother becomes a prostitute to care for her son who later meets the father in jail.
