I can't change the dates, sooooooo... I'll just have to make do...

Magnum,
I was in CR during holy week (Semana Santa) in 2005. And it was definitely much different than any other time of the year, including Christmas. It was not a ghost town, but damn close. Many places are closed, and many (if not MOST) of the chica's are with their families. It is my understanding that this is the biggest "family" holiday of the year. You'll still find chica's plying their trade, but there will only be a fraction of what is normal.

It's a shame that your 1st trip is scheduled for that particular weekend. Because you're not going to experience the "TRUE" flavor of the gulch.

One thing for sure.... If you like it, and have a good time, you'll be planning your next trip while you sitting on the plane, during your flight home. And if you manage to have fun during Semana Santa, you'll be totally blown away on your second trip, when you get to see the "real" gulch.

Have fun, and let us know about your trip when you return. Fortunately, I've learned over the years NOT to go to CR during Semana Santa. I'll be touching down in SJO on April 19th. I wanted to wait until things got back to normal!

Mucho Gusto

Magnum,
By the way, I just read an article in A.M. Costa Rica this morning about the Holy week in CR. And I completely forgot, that Thursday and Friday (April 5 & 6) are legal holidays, therefore they enforce their "dry" laws. Which means, NO ALCOHOL WILL BE SERVED ANYWHERE FOR THOSE 2 DAYS. It states:
"For some Costa Ricans the renewal comes during Holy Week before Easter. March 31 to April 7 this year. The week is usually a holiday, and many residents head for the beach to get in the last good days before the rainy season starts.

Holy Thursday, this year April 5, and Good Friday, April 6, are legal holidays and dry laws are enforced".

True, I have no experience in CR during this time of year. It is also true I failed miserably to perform in-depth research to determine the number and availability of Ticas during this period before offering any advice. In addition, my comment regarding $$$ and charm was off the cuff and was not meant to be a interpreted any other way. It's unfortunate that some may have read into the comment and have drawn a different conclusion. For these things, Magnum, I apologize.

I'll be boarding my flight in roughly 3 hours for my seventh trip. Perhaps next year I'll schedule a trip during Semana Santa to gain more valuable experience. Further, in the future when posting advice, I will put a disclaimer after each post describing the time of year the advice is pertinent too.

Good idea

No matter what time of year, what you want to do, who the chica/Tic/Nica/Columbiana (or any other group that I have left off is), YMWV. Your Milage Will Vary. As I have said before, someone like GR (sorry to use you again, but I met you on my only trip) that is younger than me, is in much better shape, has charisma, and goes to CR many more times a year will have a better chance finding a woman , on Easter Day, than I would at the CRT Anniversary party. Just a fact of life. Having at least a little game, knowing some Spanish, money in your pocket, and a wearing (sometimes only) a smile will take you wherever you want to go in CR, no matter what time of year.

I had a wonderful time with the Nica that I spent many days/nights with. For those of you who have ask about it, I met her at the SL. She was a seven (but h*ll, I'm probably at best a three - does that equal a ten?), but I was not looking for a ten. If my wife would have treated me like she did, I would probably still be married (that's a sick thought  ). By giving my wife the weekly check, I even had to pay my wife much more, and didn't even want sex. Talk about getting screwed figuratively.

"Don't worry, be happy!" Since you, and only you, are the captain of your ship, just go, have fun, and make it happen for yourself, whatever that is, wherever that is, and whenever that is. IMHO, there are way too many men trying to figure out how to "get the same results", or better, especially in reference to the "lady's of the evening". It is also true in other areas of the CR experience, and life. Look at the restaurant reviews, one man's great meal, is another man's terrible meal. Some people like Jaco, some people don't like Jaco at all. Neither one is more right than the other, and how can you possibly know anyway without having experienced it for yourself? Unfortuantely, I have too often in my life passed judgment on something from someone else's experience about it. Ask questions, yes, but understand that YMWV and without actually experiencing whatever that is, you will never truly know anyway.

Just be safe and courteous to all, and screw listening to the ramblings of this old man, have fun!!!

Health & happiness.

Santas Bro
