IMHO I would definetley stay at the del ray. This is an incredible experience for a first timer, you will be in awe. Every type of beauty you can imagine. It is a must my man. You can live out your fantasies here. Let us know when you get back what you do. Zona Blue is close and this also must do. BKC

Pokerman, welcome to CRT. You should be able to find suggestions with the following links.

The search function will also help tremendously in finding specific suggestions as well as “war stories” from the CRT membership.

Hey Pokerman! Welcome to CRT!

Just my opinion, but:

Lodgings: Sportsmen's Lodge if you like a mellow frat-house sort of vibe, Presidente if you need American-style luxury, WIFI, good breakfast buffet included, A/C etc. del Rey if you're just a poon hound and want 24 hour access to poosie. Remember that the del Rey charges a guest fee of $10.00 per chica visit, over and above your room charge. The presidente requires no fee but limits you to one girl per trip to your room; no three-ways. And, if your chica looks slutty, the Presidente won't allow her to accompany you to your room.

Refreshing between mongering: Try a visit to Manuel Antonio. Fly Sansa to Quepos from San Jose for about $100.00 RT. The flight takes less than an hour.

MP's: High priced (USD$50.00/hour average) Zona Blue, New Fantasy, Bar Idem (evenings). Mid-priced (Oasis on Paseo Colon, Sapphire) average around $25.00/hour. Low-end MPs (The Dungeon) Cheap enough so you can buy '[em by the sack, like White Castle burgers.

Food: Well, you know... It's all fairly priced, fairly bland and once in awhile, fairly tasty. For gringo food, try Denny's, McD.'s, Burger Kang etc., or Jeurgen's in San Pedro for great Omaha Steaks (TM) There's an extensive restaurant review section here. I personally like Tinjo for Asian food, Cafe Mundo for novo italiano and JR Ribs for...er, ribs.

Read the Newbie's section for even more information.

Four grand will let you live like a king for five nights, but you can have a marvelous time for half that. Please don't overpay for pu*sy, tips etc. You'll just accelerate the slide upward toward a gringoized economy. Don't mess it up for poor boys like yours truly. :)

took my first trip a few months back and stayed at the holiday inn around the corner from DR for a few days, the best western in jaco for a few days and then at the DR for a couple of days before leaving. you know what they say about opinions, but i personally thought that the DR was a dump, although i am a hotel snob. there were some definite convenience benefits at the DR, but i would pay the extra $10/night for the holiday inn. rooms were much much nicer, it was QUIET and the included bfast was great. plus there is a CRT VIP discount. i also wandered all over the general area surrounding the gulch at pretty much all hours and never had a problem. so, when i go back next week i am making base camp at the holiday inn. in jaco the best western was very nice, unfortunately they had a no chica policy. nice room, pretty good food, lame bar....anyway, like they say...youre mileage may vary.

Two things...... First I am guessing you didn't escort any chicas back to your room at the Holiday Inn. I say that because you never mention the
25 BUCK extra guest fee per chica when one does the mambo between the sheets. That's why the Holiday Inn is not recommended. Second thing... I see you have made one trip to SJO and during this one trip you mention how you wandered all around the general area and never had a problem. The daytime is one thing, but nightime is altogether different. If you continue this pattern on your next trip... just so you know... you are asking for problems at night and they will find you.

Berk.....
