Is not that far in distance. Depending on traffic would guess between 2000 and 2500 colones. They also have a free shuttle if their schedule works for you.

Downtown San Jose is a better choice. The Best Western Irazu is just off the highway on the way back to the airport. I have taken a piss there as I waited for my tour bus to leave and take me to Tamarindo. It looks nice inside. However, there is no reason to stay so far from all the great action and nightlife in downtown San Jose unless you have found a great GFE tica to take back with you for a night.

There is nothing of interest within walking distance unless you have business at the Costa Rican Immigration office or need to visit Hospital Mexico.

Definitely stay downtown.

I got stuck there one night @ Taca's expense. Its a nice hotel, with a Dennys restaurant built into the hotel for some good foods.

The hotel has their own drivers, so you get some rip off predetermined rates but they werent OUTRAGEOUS so to speak. I forget what it was into town, as I only made the trip once and negotiated with one of the Kamur doormen/security to take me home

Anyways, ID probably has a decent estimate, somewhere in the 4-6$ range Id say.

If I had the choice, downtown for sure. I spent most of my time running between the Taca and AA offices that day, but their definitly wasnt to much going on outside the hotel.

Like somoene mentioned its right off the highway, and if you were to keep going up past the hotel I think your in some middle class suburbs.

There is no reason to stay at the best western unless every single hotel is sold out. I dont even want to waste my words with this moron.

Thats a pretty moronic statement to make. Theirs lots of guys on here that stay plenty far out of town and still have fun. If your going to start crying over a 4$ taxi ride, then why are you even in CR? I cant get a taxi to take me 2 blocks for 4$ here.

Best Western Irazu is a nice hotel, theirs absolutaly nothing wrong with the place, and they allow you to bring guests back.

Hotel wise its a better place then the Del Rey, it has less hassle then the Presidente ( with the exception of a taxi ride opposed to a walk ). Its basically an Amon Plaza with a nice pool and a bit secluded.

IMJ you would have been right in not wasting your words.

If we are all cheap, and someone with over 1,100 posts (to your 30 something) is a moron, why do you even bother to post or read these threads? While I am not one of them (only 1 trip to CR), the vet's of this board have much wisdom to be gained young tiger (I assume you to be younger than me, sh*t almost eveyone is  ).

It appears that you still have not joined the CRT VIP. If you ever go to CR the $39.00 would be saved numerous times over. Does that mean that you are a cheap moron? I cannot say, because my judgment about you doesn't really matter, nor would it be a truth. It is only my judgment of myself that truly matters. IMHO negative connotations about others whether in cyber space, or in real time, accomplishes nothing, except possibly making me feel superior about myself at the moment it is typed or said. A real test in life is feeling superior about myself, within myself, and offering support to others no matter what my "feelings" may be. I understand that it doesn't seem very manly to do. Unfortunately our society has trained men that they must be the Apha dog to have worth. I have been there and done that, and pushed people away for most of my life. Hey nobody phucked with me, I got mad and I got even. I was very good at taking in anger and then covering up my insecurities with bravado. My life is much more at ease since I have quit taking in others anger. Anger is an energy that someone needs to give away. If I choose to take it in, I feel worse and they feel better. If I refuse to take it in, I feel better and they feel worse. I wish I would have learned that sooner in life.

My intent in this post is not to flame you, or anyone else, but to point out that strong, negative connotations thought, spoken, or written, about others did not serve me well. I hope that this is taken with no malice or anger. It is just a desire that someone, somehow, may benefit from my mistakes in the past. Should anyone choose to flame me, feel free, I'll put on my asbestos shorts.

Sorry for hijacking the post.

Hopefully to get it back on course; While the Best Western looked "Americanized", it is probably a nice hotel. Personally, I loved the SL. Close to everything, good food, within daytime walking to HDR, Presidente, ZB, NF, the zoo, the museum, JR's Ribs, and many others. Met plenty of CRT VIP's, 50 feet from the bar stool to my bed. Was never once asked for the dreaded cien. While not the numbers of women, and not as many 10's, for me the performance of the ladies was better than what I chose at the HDR/KL. It became for me, my Cheers.

Health & happiness to all.

Santas Bro

I might have been a little harsh so my opinion is that there are many other Hotels that are more convenient and friendly for the CR experience.
SL is a great choice. Morazon next door to the Del Rey is fantastic.

You have the wrong Best Western. The original post was:

The Best western also has a heated 12 man hot tub outside next to the cold outdoor non-heated pool. They have the Denny's free breakfest next door, a bar resturant in the lobby and a casino out back. They also have 24hr security patroling the big parking lot where you can park a car. I stayed there with my Ch*ldren. They also have internet acesses. I felt safe there..

I took the taxi downtown every chance I could and in rush hour it took 20 minutes. 40 wasted minutes. But we do have to make sacarfices for family. I left the K*ds home last trip and stayed in the gultch.

Is there a lot of touristy things to do around the Best Western - Downtown ? I'll probably be staying there on my next visit as it has free wifi and the price is $50/night. How does this hotel compare against Hotel Castillo in terms of cleanliness and location ?
