I have never been to CR (next week is my first trip), so I have no idea what the COL is. In Thailand, the average worker makes mabye $5 a day, and so the girls are willing and happy to receive up to $25 to $50 and at the MOST, $75 for all night fun.

I"ve been readng that the 9's and 10's in CR want $100. Wow! What is the average daily wage in CR? I mean, it's still a 3rd-world country, isn't it? I will spend the going rate, no doubt. Just wondering why the ladies can command such a high price?

The average salary in CR is about $75/week (give or take), that's about $15/day.

But if informed (and some informed ones too) gringos are willing to pay $100, or even $200, for an hour, the chicas will gladly accept it and start asking for it.

You can negotiate a $60-80/hr deal with a lot of chicas at BM. But there are some who will not accept less than $100, even if it means going home broke. I guess it's a matter of principles... the "principle of the platinum pu*sy"- them thinking it's worth much more than it actually is. It's up to you what you want to pay, don't let anybody tell you what to pay.

The CRT motto when I first came on here last year was "No cien", but that's been dead for a while now.

The Tico MP's are more closely alligned with the cost of living as the prices there range from $10 to $30.

Tengotodo, hardly a dumb question. In fact if more newbies to CR asked it perhaps the out of control asking prices may never have risen to the level of the BM chicas of today.

I do not think you can base the price of poosie on the average wage of the local working class. I understand a Vegas "working girl" will ask for $300 to $500.00 an hour. Certainly the average hourly wage in Vegas is much less than that.

In a tourist driven economy any comparison with the local wage goes out the window. Guys travel here to chase women, drink, maybe fish and not much else. They are basically living a fantasy experience (50 - 60 yo fat gringo phucking a 20 year old hot latina ) and are not going to let a few dollars ruin that fantasy. Its their vacation and they are going to enjoy it. You will not see many Ticos dropping $50.00 on a meal at the Capital Grill or paying $300 or $400.00 per man to fish.

Forget what Ticos make. Figure out your budget and work on your negotiating skills. What you want, at a price you are willing to pay, is out there.

The standard of living on $350 a month is pretty tough though. I live here and when you visit a tico home where that is the income it is pretty bad. Food and clothing prices are very high compared to the avg salary. The girls may charge 60 bucks an hour but that is no their avg wage. Superstars and 10s make a lot of money, the typical working girl goes home empty a lot. I see many of the SL girls go home empty half the days. That being said, one client a week equals working at Mas por Menos for a week. The families get by by having crowded homes with several people out earning a living.

I strongly suggest going to one of their houses for a visit. It is an eye opener. I am no bleeding heart at all, but we tend to see them dressed up and hanging in the DR not at home supporting mom, bambinos and lame Ticos.

I was on a tour outside the city and the Tico guide and I were talking about stuff...comparing expenses, etc. It seems that my monthly health insurance premium is almost as much as his monthly salary...he said he made about $300 per month. Whether that's accurate or he was just fishing for tips, I dunno. Thought it was interesting, tho.

If he was working for a legitimate company he was fishing for tips. Health Insurance is paid for by the employer and the premium is no where near $300.00 per month. I pay my own group premium and the cost is $37.00 per month of which $10.00 is for the group administration fee and $27.00 goes to the government for the insurance.

If he was a tourists taxi driver, then he was most likely fishing for tips. I don't blame them. Many taxi drivers work hard for very small wages.

For what its worth, here is what I know as I was trying to help a local get a job:

The average wage in CR is between 1,000 and 2,000 Colones per hour. Assuming a 2,000 hour work year, this is between $4,000 and $8,000 USD per year.

I'll give a few real life examples:

I know someone who works at a Mas X Menos. He makes 75,000 C every 2 weeks or $300 per month or $3,600 per year. This is on the low end of the pay scale. This also assumes he works 40 hours per week.

My maid makes about 5,000 C per day and works about 5 days a week. Assuming she works all year-round (which I know she doesn't) she makes around $2,500 per year.

My dentists makes about $12,000 per year.

I have a friend who works for a software company that makes $22 per day. He is at the management or executive level. This is just under $6,000 per year.


ON THE CONTRAST:

I know several very succesful HDR prostitutes. They work between 5 and 6 days week. They, practically, never go home without $100 (remember this is also tax free). On several nights, they will get TLNs at $300. Well..... let's run the numbers gents... Lets say she only gets 1 TLN per week and she works 5 days per week, not 6. This means she earns....

...drumb roll....

about $36,000 US per year. This doesn't include their steady stream of variable side income, which is a result of gringos being suckered into sending them money for a fantasy make-believe relationship.

This triples the salary of a dentist.

Its not a lot of money by US standards, but in CR, it is a TON of money. Don't worry guys... with some exceptions... they BLOW most of it away on clothing, SUVs, high-grade cell phones and the like. None the less, their net bottom line is usually about the same as a taxi driver making about $6,000 per year.

Point in case:

I live in CR and rent cheap shitty cars from time-to-time. Okay, you can call me a cheap bastard. Thats cool and my feelings aren't hurt. Because, I'm actually comfortable, but don't like to dump money on non-essential shit in a foreign country, that I'm not certain I even belong in. (This is why you will find my driving a shitbox from time-to-time in CR and negotiating with chicas to the point where I'm now called chief "what" blanket) .

Well, anyway, here is a short story to prove my point. I was making my way to the gas station in Escazu and was aggressively cut-off by a HDR prostitute in a brand-new Nissan Xterra, on her way to the pump. When she beat me to the pump, almost smashing my little rental shitbox to pieces, she had the courtesy to poke her head out of the window and flip me off. Her car was certainly first class, but didn't her attitude suck???

Being the soft-bellied gringo that I am.... I smiled back, blew her a kiss, flipped her off and then coaxed my shitbox to a different pump.

The bottom line: These gals all weave bullshit stories of woe and misery. Yet, some make more money then the highest cast in their society. Don't get me wrong. I'd never trade my life for theirs. SOME DO HAVE A HARD TIME. HOWEVER, MANY ARE WELL-OFF AND ARE LIVING LIFE TO THE FULLEST.

Yeah I hear ya. I was making the comparison of his montly salary to MY U.S. health insurance premium...I think I pay $200 but have no dental and no vision...the total package would cost me $260 or so and that just floored him. (I don't have a group...it's just a policy for me alone...and yeah I'm shopping for a better policy.)

By the way drifter, someone pointed you out to me last week...I really liked the CRT shirt!

Thanks for all the replies. It's as I figured, some of these girls are really making a fine living and that's why they can continue to be so selective. I probably will have 1 or 2 9's and 10's, but for the most part I'm perfectly happy with an enthusiastic and appreciative 7.

I have also been to see the living spaces of some of the young ladies and most that I have seen are nothing wonderful. Some of the high-grades do make a lot and some of them sure as hell blow it on crap like expensive clothes (although I suppose that could be considered a business expense), cell phones (another business expense), etc. However, there are also a lot of them (including some of the Colombianas) supporting extended families back home. This includes some teen age K*ds that don't care how mami makes it, but they will die without new high-tops. Point being that high-income often equals high out-flow and not to the direct benefit of the chica. FWIW
