Poker Wed. Night the 27th at the Fiesta Alajuela -- subject-line says it all. I'll be going with a buddy picking me up from the SL, NL Holdem, $50 buy in with possible 4 2X chip add-ons -- probably before the first break, but I've never played there. (Warning, my friend is a very good player, and likely to take all our chips, damn him!)

Anyways, all of you if you can should get your yayas out in the afternoon, like I plan-to, and join me for this one. Tournament starts at 8:30PM so I'll probably be stationed in the SL's bar starting maybe at 7:30 or so. No need to PM me, I'm stuck in airports & on planes anyway 'till noon tomorrow, just show up & have fun!!!

Spinner, are you sure it's a $50 buy in? I saw somewhere else that it was a $500 buy in. If it's a $50 buy in I'm there with two wingmen.

Got there, bought in, don't even want to discuss bad beat #1. Rebuy, fold fold fold, I'm the big blind, dealt JJ. Raise of about 2-3x pot from VERY aggressive player across the table, folds to me, I'm all in, show my jacks.

He shows A9. Flop (of course...) comes 9-crap-9, no jack on the turn, and as if it was needed he got an ace on the river for a boat. I gave up at that point, was out before the first break. Buddy made it a bit further but also got killed maybe 1/2 hour into the second period of play.

You'd think I'd have learned, but I'll probably be back there next Wednesday night. Right now I'm in Bocas Del Toro, Panama, 'till next Wednesday AM though. Fun place.

Well, that's part of your problem right there! Going all in with JJ? Presumably you want someone to call you (otherwise you'd slow play em til the flop) and the only people who are going to call are ones with at least one overcard- that's the gamble you take- losing to A9 with JJ isn't a bad beat, it's poker. A bad beat is flopping a flush, and having someone squeak out a boat on the river ;) . The bad part of your hand is that when the flop came "9-crap-9", you'd have top two pair, and figure that you're good- so you'd still have bet into his trips.

Going all in with JJ is not a bad move, it's made me more than it's lost me. I ended up $1200 up in poker in CR this time, and after three in the money finishes in my last 3 tournaments since I've been back, I'm up another thousand bucks, so I'm pretty happy with my play lately thanks. And JJ is WAY ahead of A9 pre-flop...

I may be going to play a little poker this Wed jan 31st. at the Fiesta tourney.

It kinda sucks becasue the house takes 30% from every buy-in and re-buy.... That's a lot..... but I figure I'll go there and then I'll check out Defelufo in Alajuela....

Played in the tournament at the Amon Plaza on Saturday. There were around 30 players, so the winner was getting over 1K! I made it to the final table and outlasted VB, Russ and others. I really enjoyed putting out a couple "semi" pro locals who play every week. I didn't cash but it was fun and I will do it again next trip.

Great fun for $100....pizza and drinks included (at least this past Saturday).

i had a great time at that place, it's right down from Zona Blue, too, which is a bonus. Gods, do I ever miss being able to bang Naomi anytime I wanted....

With the CRT tournament being Saturday at 5pm,I am planning to play in Russ' tournament first and then the CRT one. Since I play poker very rarely,it gives me a chance to overdose.
