TMan,
That was a good impression. I almost thought I wrote that post. I think there have been some interesting arguments thrown out in this thread, but I'd take exception to some. Whether the chicas refer to themselves and each other is quite possibly beside the point. Blacks commonly use the "N" word amongst themselves but would be seriously upset if they heards any of us honkies using it. And we commonly refer to ourselves as Gringos but as TMan pointed out it can take on entirely different connotations when a Tico uses the same term to describe us. Finally, as TMan also pointed out, what is allowable or even acceptable between 3rd parties out of earshot is not necessarily considered good form when used directly face to face with the person being referred to.

Of course, "puta" is technically accurate as a means of describing these "working girls". And, btw, does using that latter term to refer to hookers imply that a chica with a job as "just" a shopgirl or secretary (excuse me, administrative assistant) doesn't really work for a living? One can trot out all the various dictionary references one wants, but that ignores the simple fact that words have connotations as well as denotations. To many people "puta" or even "whore" connotes a certain unsavory aspect to the avocation. I don't know if chicas feel that way or not, but I wouldn't make any assumptions just on the basis that they use that word themselves, especially when there are so many much more politically safe terms for the "little darlings".

For my part, I only use the term puta to refer to the lying cheating manipulating money hungry type of whore. Some might argue that includes most of them and maybe it does to one degree or another but I believe many of them are not all that bad. If a chica tries to swindle me I'll call her a puta. If I'm trying to maintain a GFFE with a chica that is behaving decently, I'll avoid any term like that like the plague. And if we're talking just here amongst the guys, the use of locker room phraseology may be more understandable. I certainly don't have that big a problem with whatever terms other guys use. However, clearly there are many guys here who do. And because of that, and this being a much classier forum than say someplace like ISG, I'll avoid the term here as well out of respect for the "sensitivities" of my fellow forum members.

I Think we should start calling these "Putas" "Mi Felicidad" (My Happiness) after all that is what they really are to many of us right :) ? Kind of puts a positive spin on a somewhat negative situation :oops: . Once you start calling them Mi Amor wierd shit can start to happen :? . I don't advise use of the later phrase too easily.

Most of the time I hear almost all Latinas use the word Puta in every other sentence. Every Time a Latino or Latina tennis player misses a shot they seem to say "Puta". It is pretty much a generic word for many different occasions. Might say it is kind of a loose term that runs wild in these Latin countries :wink: .

Some of the Ticos that try not to use cuss words have adapted or invented their own slant to "Puta" & use the term "Puchica". This is the equivalent to us saying Frecking instead of F---ing thing :o . Want to get a laugh out of a native Tica after she tells you some big story just say " A La Puchica" with a dose of serious feeling & see their expression. It is funny coming from a "Gringo" which catches them off guard :lol: .

"Bonus question: Does anyone know what the chicas call HDR/KL?"

The $64 answer is - 'la Oficina' - the office!

Good on you man for picking up on that.

Well I guess it is a lot of work dealing with these "old" Gringos they see :? so work is kind of appropriate I guess :) ? We do work some "Pretty Hard" & their acting can't always be so easy although they seem natural at it sometimes. Maybe HDR should be called The University of HDR Drama & acting studies :oops: ?

Is it proper etiquette to refer to Chi_trekker and GetRhythym as "Putos"? :)

Yes. Do not dare call them "putas" when they call us "gringos" which is DEROGATORY.

:lol:

I like Californication's "Little Darlings" best. I think this is to each his own. I do not personally use the term puta or whore. It does not bother me when it is used in our forum though. I would strongly suggest thinking twice before saying it to one of the girls. What they call each other and what they want to hear from us can be two very different things.

Here's what I discovered. I repeatedly used the term, "mujeres de la vida facil" (women of the easy life) when talking with a girl about other prostitutes. She scowled and said, "Don't say that. I hate that." I asked her why, and her logical answer was, "You think this life is easy? Pendejo..."

Several chicas said, "Just call us chicas." That's good enough. Since we rarely are discussing women other than prostitutes here, "chica" becomes synonymous with "puta." And it is less offensive to some members, so let's just avoid words like "whore" and "pputa."

I was in ZB my last trip, and a loudmouth drunken Phuck was talking trash. "I've phucked almost every phucking whore in this place, and I'm not going to stop until I Phuck every whore here." When I asked him to use another term, it nearly became a fist-fight. Point is, the guy was just being disrespectful to everyone, including me, in order to either increase his penis size or to prove to himself he's 'the man.' Guys, I don't subscribe to the idea that any of us are pathetic losers who can't get laid at home, but banging some prostitute for money does not, I repeat does not make you more of a man. You can bang a thousand (sorry G.R.) and it doesn't make you better, or more important, or in fact more of a man.

When we use terms like bitch slut cunt whore gash twat slut slot zorra puta cum-dumpster, piece of ass or any toher term, we automatically dehumanize both the chicas and ourselves. This isn't about "political correctness," but about being civilized gentlemen, treating others with the same respect we demand for ourselves. BTW Zippy, "puchica" is a combination of puta, chica and "pachuco" (common, from the street, slang jargon). It's a fun word.

If I speak to her face, I call her by name (re: Dale Carnegie). When I talk about her to others, she's a chica, a girl or a little darling (thanks C-Dude).

Excuse me Gentleman, but the Chica/Punta/Wh*re/Spratt or what ever you want to call them are all in the same business... 8)

That business is MEN... :shock::shock::shock:

Get It... :twisted:

So when you’re defending their honor over either a picture that was posted (That most likely cost the Gringo to take…or the referrals of the use of what name to call them
” Chica/Punta/Wh*re/Spratt” ...Please remembers that their job is MEN..... Nothing else...To me, these posts are just another part of the Chica-Drama-Scene...

Just like the phucking novellas that they have to watch every night before going out to work... MEN that is…..
Of course that IMHO.... :!:

Iggy... :P

Horny American hombre = Friendly Latina chica

Cliente = Working Girl

Monger = Puta/Whore

It's a very simple formula really. Just make sure you keep your equivalencies straight. In other words, if your view of yourself is simply as a horny but otherwise upstanding and regular guy - while the girls who service your needs are all "whores" morally beneath your level - then you need to take a good hard look in the mirror.

While I don't harbor any illusions about the underlying business at hand, in my mind, I prefer to view the girls as no different from you, me or any "non-pro" girl. When you demean them, you only demean yourself.
