Just did a search on American Airlines site for late April/early May and saw direct non-stop flights from LAX to SJO at $519 (that included all taxes).

The cheapest I saw at Travelocity was $600+ for spring break. That's a great rate.

That fare appears to be without the taxes. Bump it up about $50.
