The CRT discounts are only available to VIP members. You would need to upgrade your membership to VIP to receive a card, it's $39/yr and the discounts will pay that on your first trip.

Some folks don't know, but if you pay money for stuff at lets say the bar and don't show your CRT card you don't get the discount. Better to sign your tab and pay for everything at the end of your trip. Just don't forget the propinas.

That's a good idea, but you have to check your bill before you sign each time, your bill can get screwed up (intentionally or unintentionally).

This happened to me at Sportsmens Thanksgiving dinner. My girl and I each had the dinner and she had tea and I had a soda. When the bill came, it had a few extra items on it, about $20 more. Luckily, I noticed it. I was told the register wasn't cleared from the last customer. I DON'T THINK THIS WAS DONE INTENTIONALLY.

IMHO, this is very good advice.

If there is a new bartender, or if the bar staff doesn't remember that you're a CRT member, or if you don't show your CRT card, you will not get the discount. Just sign your bar tab, leave a propina on the bar, and then you can verify your discount (on everything) when you check out of the hotel. It helps to make things flow much smoother throughout your stay. Just my dos colones....
