I just recently found this board at this place is awesome.

Lots of great info.

I am in the beginning stages of planning a trip to SJO. I will be bringing a buddy down with me, so I already have my wingman. It looks like some great hotels to choose from.

My question is how far in advance to I try and make the reservations for a hotel?

It seems that some of the hotels get filled up pretty quick.

By the way I am looking at spring 07 trip down there.

Looks like the sportsman is good choice.

Book you hotel now. NOW.
You can always cancel with advance notice later.

Hotel reservations at a place of your choice are almost more important than the air reservations which cost $100 to reschedule.

Read my top twenty tips in the Newbie section, maybe on Page 2 or 3 and read my list of what to bring, there too.

Not sure how long you are going for but I have been many times this year and find this as a rule of thumb for rooms. They are easy to find where you want them M-W and can be diffucult at the desired places Th-S. I almost always at least try to stay at the SL.

Rocklos,
This is the simplest, most accurate answer to your question. Do it now!

I would say at least a month in advance, if not two. If it's your first time, figure out what rooms are the decent ones by doing a search on CRT.

Hey Rocklos...welcome to CRT.

You pissed me off with your first freaking post, sonny-boy. :P

Well, not really. It's just that statement "I'll be traveling with (another freaking newbie), so I'll already have a wing man." No, you won't. You'll be two lost little lambs in the great big woods.

Seriously, if you stay at any of the "favorite monger hotels," (i.e. Sportsmen's, Presidente, Hotel Hell Rey, Castillo) you will undoubtedly encounter dozens of CRT guys, most of whom have ""been there, done that." These guys would make good wing men, too! Especially if your traveling bud is a newbie to C.R.

Yes, read Ace's most excellent lists, King Costa's brief tutorial on negotiating with working girls, plus search reviews of hotels and MP's. Download and print RBC100's "tico bar/massage parlor list," which is the single best non-map resource for finding budget action, some of which can be excellent.

Sadly, I can't see avatars and I don't know who's a VIP and who is not... but if you ain't a V.I.P. Member yet, do yourself a massive favor and join up. For less than forty bucks, you'll be supporting this website. You'll be able to download and print maps of all the hot spots. You'll even qualify for discounts on everything from fishing tours to sessions at Zona Blue, food/beverage/room discounts at the SL, room discounts at the Presidente and much more. I've been a paying member for two years now, and I've saved the cost of membership at least ten times over...hell, I saved my most recent membership fee during the first day of my most recent trip. So just do it!

If you have any questions, first do a search and read what's already there. If you still have questions, post 'em! Your CRT brothers are way happy to help.

And to echo other guys' suggestions: MAKE YOUR HOTEL RESERVATIONS RIGHT THE Phuck N O W!!!!! (shouting intentional).

I do want to stay at hotel that is "friendly" So me and my buddy can hookup with much wiser folks that show us around, and teach us a couple of things.
