Returned about 6 weeks ago from 1st trip to CR and will be returning 10/22 solo for 10 days. When first entering the DR it was like all said a moment I would never forget. We do plenty of mongering here in Texasat SC'S where there may be 35 girls on shift and maybe 35 percent who play, but to walk into the DR saturday night and see such a huge selection who all play blew me away.Have been to Mexico 25 times or moreand never seen such a line up.The problem I had with the rooms were the beds felt like they had been phu..ed inn 5000000.00 times and probably had been.Next were the (plastic, rubber) pillows, after talking to my friend he thought about it and said actually not a bad idea.Last of all was the noise factor which I knew about prior.1st night stayed on 5th floor not bad mostly traffic noise, last night 6th floorwith crappy Home Depo style window unit which cycled on & off every 4 minutes & the noise from the casino sounded like set up in front of my door. Now backto original questio of how do the rooms to the Sportmens or any other suggestions. No Presidente after VB recent post.

Thanks for any info

Sportsmans can be loud if they put you in a courtyard room facing inward -towards bar. You can only really get to sleep from 1AM to 730A

If you stay in the new wing the doors have no cauking or backing on them so when they close its like a flash bang grenade going off- if you are asleep. Walls are thin.

So dont fly down, like I did, with Jet lag and a 12 hour work day prior to the flight....because you will never catch up.

Nonetheless it beats the DR hands down.

I here the Amon Plaza is pretty good.

On my last trip in June I stayed at the Amon Plaza. Rooms are very nice and quiet. No hallway traffic like at the Prez. The only thing missing is a mini-frig in the rooms. For the CRT rate of $50.00 for a std deluxe, you can't go wrong. Plus buffet breakfast with eggs prepared as you ordered is great.

I have been in the lodging business over 20 years. The rooms in the Del Rey are very tired. That and the $10 surcharge forced me to stay on my past 8 trips in the Presidente. For the $51 CRT rate including breakfast ( and occassional suite upgrade I get) my choice will always be the Presidente. Best value in San Jose ... especially if you are a mongerer.

ps ... The only downside is that several chicas have insisted that we take a taxi late at night from the Blue Marlin to the Presidente. First time I agreed and paid the 1000 colones to be driven one block. Second time I said bullshit ... either we walk or you walk. Guess what she choose?

yes, the taxis are charging more than the meter should read, 50 cents versus 1 or 2 dollars.

however, ask yourself, you have the company of a little darling that you're attracted too, you just want to get back to the presidente in peace, and maybe it's even raining or late at night.

what's a dollar (or two)?

yes, yes, I know it's the principle....but jeez, how are the taxi drivers making a living charging 50 cents while performing a service that requires them to maintain a vehicle and pay all sorts of inspection/permit fees?

it's not like they're getting rich ripping us for 2 dollars.

plus, I think the little darlings will be in a better frame of mind if we allow them the luxury of a taxi ride.

I'd stay at the Presidente or SL and pay the taxi fee just to avoid the "Walk of Shame"

if you're going to put up with spartan conditions, might as well stay at the Hotel Asia or Nuevo Johnson for $10 bucks a night.
