I am almost always here on business so my laptop is my personal friend many a night! I just keep it locked up in my backpack, then that is locked to my luggage. I have always done this where ever I go in many countries. Not an easy job to take all of this out of a room.

Having your own laptop though especially at the SL is a great thing. The wireless connection is great for almost all of the SL. I heard that the very very front "house" section has an issue, but for the most part, no problem at all. There are 3 wireless routers that do the job. I just think is also easier to use your own since your computer is configured for you and all setup with the right programs and such.

Good Luck,
DarkLighter

Bring it. Besides the work aspect (yes, some of us never stop), it comes in handy when you want to listen to music or watch DVDs with your tica. :)

Ok, so this is a very old thread... proves tghe newbie is digging deep.

But can anyone give me the 411 on Amon plaza regarding wireless access and the size of their safes (i.e. will a small laptop fit inside)? I'm debating whether to bring it.

They are not of age to drink among other things.

On one of my previous trips I brought my laptop and left it out on the nightstand. A chica I had over for TLN asked me what that was and I replied it's a book. Needless to say she never got near it.

I agree the hassle of bringing the laptop with you is not worth it especially when Interenet access is available.. DR, KL, SL all have internet.

Also strongly suggest you bring your camera to take lots of pics so you can post them in the VIP section.

I have always taken the laptop and digital camera. The reactions you get after you create a movie and/or slideshow are great. It all depends on how creative you are :D

Amon has wireless access in rooms and they do have electronic safes.

Always take my laptop down, so convenient to have and never bother locking it up in a safe, it stays plugged in on the desk.

Take the laptop. I have bartered deals with chicas for freebies by allowing them or their friends to use the laptop for checking e mail.

One chica stopped by in the AM 3 days checked email and gave good BBBJCIM and brought her friend over for a Sunday afternoon delight in exchange for using WORD, e mail and one pound of coffee.

I just had my laptop stolen by a cabbie in CR last Friday night. Never again..never. I'm not so pissed about my computer but, like a dumb ass gringo, I had all of my keys in my computer bag as well. Nothing like losing all of your car keys, house keys, office keys, motorcycle keys, post office box keys etc..all at once. By the way, did you guys know that if you need new car keys you can not just go out and make one? The key has to be programmed to your car! And if you lose said keys, you may need to have your car towed to a dealership to have that work done. Then, after the tow, you'll be about $200 lighter in the wallet thanks to modern technology. Thank God it was taken in CR and not here. I broke my #1 ultimate all time rule. NEVER LEAVE ANYTHING UNATTENDED. My stuff was stolen in less than 15 seconds.

I have the cabbies name and phone number and he'll have a surprise waiting for him next time I'm in CR.

I was at the Amon Plaza last week and my 12" laptop fit in the safe with some room to spare. I'm not sure if a 15"er would fit. I was in a deluxe room on the second floor and always had wireless reception although not always the best reception in the entire room. They have several connections to choose from and usually one was at least reasonably fast.

Junior Suite at the Amon...Room 212. Great wireless access, right above the bar/reastaurant

Laptop does not fit in safe as mine is a 17" but no need as it was not touched by any staff member or anyone else but me and who I choose to let use it.

This was my 7th trip with mine and have yet to have a security issue with it regardless of where I stayed, SL, Castillo or Amon and all had good wireless signals, at least in the past year +

I would not dream of traveling without my laptop. It's a porn depository, an electronic black book, a diary, a 'net surfing beast, a movie studio, a music player, the list goes on. However, treat it like your passport. My laptop is always with me or in the hotel safe. You are inviting theft if you carry it in a computer bag. Put it in a backpack or some other uninteresting looking piece of luggage. Mine stays in my backpack. A thief would have to take one or both arms before he's going to get my 'puter.

If your room doesn't have a safe, attach it to a lock cable. I try like hell not to stay in hotels without a decent safe. But if I'm out of luck I attach it to something big and hide it. If the hotel staff look a little sketchy, I pack it on my back when I leave the room. Sounds like a pain in the ass, but it's not, really. I've only had to resort to that once or twice. Usually the safe is large enough, or I have enough faith in the hotel to trust the staff not to yank it off the security cable.

I always bring my laptop with me because in addition to getting free wireless internet in my hotel room, I also use it during my flight to watch DVDs. Make sure your seat has a powerport nearby.
