Gents, as a new guy I don´t mean to be a wise ass but I have to be honest here.

Heard about the Amon Plaza deal and decided to give it a try.

I have stayed in better Motel 6 rooms. I swear my lower back is going to need surgery and 15 Chiropracters after sleeping in the dusty 20 year old blown out mattress in the room.

Here`s the deal....you check in at the casino and get a slip...when you cross back over the staff sees you are a "conscession reduced rate patron" and you get the shunted to the worst rooms in the hotel. Moreover, the attitude from the front desk is "look gringo we´re giving you a reduced rate so shut up"-

Apparently, the front desk staff think they´re (like) better than everyone or something. In my opinion a bunch of minimum wage clerks acting arrogant.

Moreover, even though no chica fee...apparently you still have to do the gauntlet passed the glaring staff. Not a big deal here I can always put a sweater on the chica but there´s no excuse for the inflated price on poor quality rooms.

The first and last time I stay here....it´s a rip off. I should of stuck with Hotel Morazon (low budget but you get what you pay for) or Hotel Presidente.

First off going through the Casino has nothing to do with the room they give you. Please do not state fact when it is indeed not. The reason I know that is I was there on consecutive weekends last month and the first trip I was given a standard room with a BRAND NEW mattress that was far different than I had received on prior trips.

Two weeks later I received the old style BAD mattress you refer. When I inquired they indicated it was luck of the draw and they gladly since they had openings moved me to a room with a new mattress. It has nothing to do with a discounted rate and being shafted because of it.

I was also informed that every room will receive brand new mattresses in the near future they are working their way through the hotel.

I find the amon a fine alternative and the newer mattress rooms are a welcome upgrade. I utilize many gulch hotels depending on need an availability and have always found the Casino to be accomodating and professional and the front staff quite friendly. This is my opinion and YMMV but a discounted room does not get you a lumpy mattress that I can guarantee you.

Every hotel has good reviews and bad. It is all a matter of personal prefaces. The only problem you had was the mattress. And that could bin resolved buy going to the front deck. However, you pissed them off so they would not help you. Tack my boy, you have to use some tack.

I do not find anything in his post that says he did or did not request assistance with his problem or any factual indication he pissed them off

Here are the facts I was going by. What gave the front desk employees the Attitude :?:

Charlesmartin33

HOUSTON (Jan. 26, 2005) -- Charles Martin, the former Green Bay defensive end who body-slammed Chicago Bears quarterback Jim McMahon into the turf and ended his season in 1986, has died. He was 46.

What you actually wrote was

Thats is not a statement of fact but rather a supposition, not supported by fact, on your part. You still do not know if he approached the front desk asking for assistance with his problem or if he did not. What you do know is his feelings on the attitude of the front desk staff.

By the way, can not be a late hit until the referee blows the whistle. Protect yourself at all times by not delving into opinion and then stating it as fact

I dont know if the casino was what got me a shitty room but I agree if you get one of the old rooms with old mattresses then it is bad. I have also had the opposite experience with a great one. Both times were with the casino discount. I think it may be just the luck of the draw.

Charlesmartin33, I stayed at the Amon on my last June trip and it was a great place for me. You must have gotten a crumpy hotel employee when you checked in. I had no problems and got a great room.

I just returned from a 4 night stay at the Amon Plaza. I had a Jr. Suite and this is what I experienced.

The front desk staff was somewhat aloft, but did their job.

The room was clean, the beds had good mattresses. The remote for the TV did not work correctly. Asked for a replacement, they sent me another one, it did not work either? Left it at that.

Learned not to try to exchange dollars in the casino, worst exchange rate I found. The ripoff place in the Airport is better! Also the casino WILL NOT buy back Colones from you.

The maid staff and restaurant staff are very nice and provide great service.

I made the mistake of jumping in one of the cabs parked out front of the hotel. Nothing but rip off artists. Walk to the corner and flag down a regular taxi.

A VERY short walk to the Zona Blue. ( I like that ) :D

All in all, an o.k. place if nothing else is available, but I will try somewhere else next time.

Well, I guess its time for me to jump in here.
As a regular at the casino, from time to time, I get a comp for a room on a Saturday night which I enjoy sharing with my GF when I play late.
The hotel staff knows me because I'm always around the building so it might be for that reason that they always give me a good room. Once, they even upgraded me to a jr. suite.
They've always treated me with respect and I've never noticed any kind of attitude.
Also, as far as the exchage rate at the casino goes, they have TWO rates -one for players and one for people just exchanging money. They really don't want to serve as an money exchange - they are a casino and they provide the service for the players.
Buy in at the tables, play a little and then cash in your chips. You'll be pleased. If you are not a gambler, DO NOT EXCHANGE MONEY HERE.
LVSteve

I paid full price for a room at the Amon Plaza on my first trip to CR in June. The second trip, in August/Sept, I went through Nixon in the Casino and got the CRT discount. Both times I got the Jr. Suite, and both times got the same room. The only difference I noted was the huge difference in price. My bed was comfortable, the staff at the desk was professional (if a bit aloof) and the dining room and cleaning staff fell all over themselves to please me. No ice machine is available, so to get ice, I called the front desk. Each time I called for ice, it was at my door within 5 minutes.
While the Amon Plaza is no Four Seasons, it suited my taste and quite well.
