The age of consent here in Costa Rica is 18. At age 18 a girl can have sex for either love or (as some of us are more familiar) money. The penalties for having sex with an und***ge girl here are widely known and posted at the airport amongst other places so that there are no misunderstandings. Whilst listening to some TV coverage of the latest fiasco with Rep Foley from Florida coming on to a Page in Washington DC,I learned that the "age of consent" in our Nation's capital is 16. Yes indedee my friends SIXTEEN in DC. Now CR is considered a Third World Country but knows enough to call a 16 year old a Ch*ld, but the U.S. in some juristictions,considers them adults. Perhaps those do-gooders that want to come here, under the auspices of the U.S Embasy, to protect the chicas from prostitution, should save the airfares and start in their own backyards and protect their own Ch*ldren FIRST.

The age of consent in 99% of Canada is 14, dont feel to bad.

Based on the Foley fallout, you can be assured there will now be a march of the conservatives to increase these ages to 18 in the USA. When you think about it...it does seem strange that teens can have Babi*s legally, but cant marry without parental consent, drink, vote, etc etc.

With my understanding of these laws, Foley probably has all the legal rights to do what he did, as sick as it may seem to us. He is now just another "witch hunt". The fickle winds of USA justice rise again...

Thanks for an interesting and informative link. It's an eye opener as to the various legal consenting ages throughout this world. The cultural practices in African and Asian countries certainly show a demeaning of the female. Get real, the age of 12 is really despicable.....now that is indeed a Ch*ld.

I disagree with VB about his comment depicting US vers. CR as to age acceptance in that I do believe that 16 is more of a universal age. With that said, this old fart has absolutely nothing in common or is attracted to a female of that age or even 18 or 20 for that matter. Now 20 years, one month and one day....all bets are off. Shit, who am I kidding (not a pun). At my age it becomes a grand daughter age syndrom even up to 25 or 27.

I do have a confession to make. I've been living for several years with a feline that now is only 6 and is a real party animal. OK, ban me from the membership. I'm just pitiful. Foley...eat your heart out. I'm going into the vet's office manana to seek treatment.

So it's legal or not illegal to have for a man of any age to have sex with a 16 year old in DC while we(The US) has been forcing our moral virtues on other smaller countries that need us more than we need them?

The general legal age in CR is 18 as it is in the US. But its never as simple as just one number. Are we talking about, voting, drinking, serving in the military, driving a car, having sex for free, having sex for money or something else. In CR, a tico can legally have sex with a girl as young as 15 (or even 12 if she is "dishonest") just as they can in some parts of the US. It is having sex with a girl under 18 FOR MONEY that is illegal in CR. In the US, it is illegal to have sex for money no matter how old the girl is. So the age of consent for sex is NOT more restrictive in CR than in Washington DC.

I am not a lawyer. I do know that a Florida judge threw out a stautory rape charge years ago because in Florida at the time a girl could get an abortion at 14 with out her parents consent. He said you can not have it both ways.

So many states lowered the age of consent so that a girl did not need consent for sex or abortions.

In Virginia the age of consent the last I heard was 16. But if the boy was 18 or under then 15 was the age. Three years ago my 15 year old neice got pregnant and had the baby at 15. He was 18 and in high school and there was nothing the parents could do about it. Today I have a beatifull grandneice who just celebrated her 3rd birthday. Of course he was not invided but a few of us have mentioned to the Grandmom why force the K*D to choose between you and her father.

I have two daughters and was talking to a freind of mine. Female. And she told me that she first started having sex at 14 and would do it the same way again. I got my first stinky finger in 6th grade and my first Puta when I could nut. I am saying that because I beleive in different situations different laws should apply.

But the age of consent is tied to the age a girl can go into a farmica and get the morning after pill. Or an abortion without her parents consent. And you will notice most women who beleive in abortion think 14 or 15 is old enough.

And one of the first things Komainei did when he took power was to lower the age to 9 because that was how old Mohhamad's youngest wife was. I have read Iran raised it to 12 after Komainei died.

And I agree that if you can show the girl used faked ID and looked 18 then you should not have to go to jail. for her lies.

Only about a year ago, it was on California's ballot to outlaw abortion for minors without parental content and it failed to pass. So, minors can undergo a surgerical procedure (a dangerous one at that), but can't get in an R rated movie. WOW WEE... that makes a lot sense.
