FYI
I´m sure this place Soda Peru has been mentioned before but I had to give it another plug as a first time patron.

One of my buddies recommended the place. Was reluctant because place wasn´t much to look at. Looks are decieving- I tried it and dang if the food wasn´t good. This guy can really cook.
Got the sea bass soup, side of white rice, and side of grilled bread.

Close to Sptsmns lodge.
They specialize and do only one meal: lunch and they do a good lunch.

Got the above noted thread.....looks like I was rehashing old news in the post.

Additionally, one has to try the Breaded Sea Bass....outstanding.
They give you a type of sweet tomato-picante sauce with it that is good.
If the food is like this in Peru I may move there.

This place sure beats eating the shoe leather they trot out at Nuestra Tierra and News Cafe.

Not only is the food far superior the price is much less. Most of the small sodas scattered through out San Jose are better and cheaper than a hotel dining room or a place that caters to tourists rather than locals.

Yes, the lady that serves you at Soda Peru is very nice :) . She's worked there a long time. I sometimes see her in Morazan Park [ironically  ] on Sunday afternoons spreading the word for the Jehova's Witnesses or the Seventh Day Adventists, or whatever. She always smiles :) and talks to me [or tries; I speak no Spanish and she no English].

As Irish Drifter mentioned the check is among the best news of all. Few places have this level of food at such a price. I like exploring the local eateries. When you see lots of locals in these places enjoying lunch it is almost always a good spot.rbc100

I was just in Boquete, Panama, and once we'd been to a place by this same name we went back there for lunch & dinner every single time. There were 7 or 8 different kinds of ceviche, and all were varying degrees of excellent, as was all the other Peruvian seafood. I'd really never wanted to visit Peru, but that place made me see that a visit might be a lot of fun, since I like food almost as much as I like f---ing! :)
