Has anyone tried to bring any liquor from Duty Free back to the states yet.

Was curious as to the liquid ban on the central america flights returning to the states.

Am aware you can't do it coming in from US, what about returning ?

No way yet. I tried on Aug. 13. Hopefully, they will change their ways to putting it the plane for us and giving it to us as we land. In July, in Mexico, that is the way they did it.

This will kill the duty free business unless they start to load it in the baggage hold and have passengers pick it up on arrival. And within Europe you cannot get duty free anymore when you travel between countries unless you are leaving Europe. The only places where duty free will continue are those countries that will sell you duty free when you arrive.

NO Problem with Duty Free, Brought 3 liters back they sealed the box up tighter then a drum and was not stopped boarding the aircraft.....

Have no idea why but all duty free stores said NO PROBLEM AT ALL.

Purchased all my duty free booze when I arrived...(good tip from somebody a few weeks ago)

For the trip home, packed it all (6 bottles) into my checked in bag, wrapping each in a pair of jeans, shirt ect. No problems at all. If I had purchased them on the way out and carried it on board, it would have been confiscated in San Salvador when I switched planes, saw a few upset tourists… So if you have to transfer planes, good chance that you will loose it.

OBTW, Cuban cigars are much cheaper in San Salvador duty free than in CR duty free, and they gladly de-band and re-package them for you.

I just returned last night, 9/06/06, SJO to Miami. They have created a process where by you purchase your duty free items, they pack them up, and walk you to your gate. The items are placed with a guard in the corridor to the plane. During the final carry on search you retrieve your duty free items and take them on the plane. The rule is IF you are connecting to another plane at your first stop in the US, you go throught US customs and are required to pack the items in your regular checked baggage to continue traveling with it. As I remember this is how duty free was handled many decades ago. But it works for me!!
