I am enroute to San Jose, in early October, and am staying at the Hotel Presidente. There are a few reviews about the hotel and when coupled with info gathered from their website, it appears that I made a wonderful choice with one of their Jr Suites.

However, I have seen some messages that reference a dress code for female visitors. Can someone please shed some light on what the rules are? I suspect they are rules I can live with, but it would be helpful to know what they are.

Any info about the hotel and those rules would be greatly appreciated.

There are many threads on the topic, (one is 9 pages long) browse back through the Hotel section and look for Presidente or Dress Code.

PacoLoco....WOW, Thanks. This is not one discussion thread I ran across. All the others were kinda vague. But where they compare well is it seems to be a subjective decision. As the post detailed, probably not much of a problem for me as I am more likely to select a classy look for my friends.

Thanks alot!

De nada,
You will enjoy your suite, and so will the chicas. I suggest making friends with as many hotel staff as possible, they will treat you like a king. Most chicas are aware of the policy and will either be dressed for the Pres. or they won't, so don't worry. I was there last week and had no problems at all. Do however be careful of the walk at night from the DelRey to the Pres., if you see punks hanging out on the street or feel uneasy grab a cab, (not one parked but grab one passing by).
PS
joining and getting a CRT VIP card will save you a bundle on hotels, MP's, restaurants and not to mention more valuable info and photo gallery in the vip section.

Yea, I have been reading that the chicas will enjoy being treated to a nice suite room with a nice gentleman as it is so far beyond anything they experience on a regular basis.

Tell me more about walking around the hotel, after dark. Is it really that dangerous? Or is the problem more linked to annoying? I am 6'3" and 240lbs. Certainly not a target many are interested in taking on.

I'm 4-3 105 and I'll jump up and punch you both in the nuts!

LTS4, read back through the security section about the muggings, crime wave, robberies etc... Crime appears to be down in the area since the police have made an appearance but there are reports of people still getting robbed in the area at night.

Hey CAdude you still in SJO? Your Colombiana was muy bonita, was she from Cali? And what does she see in a guy from DC and FL that calls himself Californicationdude anyway?

OMG...You guys are funny. Bring it on! It's not like I look like a tourista, anyways..........LOL

On the serious...thanks for the info. I never had problems in the past, wherever I have traveled, but the right precautions are always advised. Guess I hadn't read anything about recent robberies/muggings, but will read that section so I am better informed. I never carry much cash with me at night, but I suspect the little that I do carry is a lot to those that would try to seperate me from it.

PacoLoco...I already booked my hotel room, so will the CRT card still benefit me? Please enlighten me. What about these photos you speak of in the VIP section? Is it a worthwhile research tool, or better to keep things exciting by stepping into the unknown?

The MP chicas photos are worth it alone in my opinion.
Look I don't push anyone to join and don't care if they do or not, but -the discounts and extra info available make it a no-brainer, especially with another month to plan and research before your trip, membership will easily pay for itself in 1 trip.

Just make sure your lady friend always has a jacket (that zips or buttons up) and isn't wearing a short skirt and you should be fine. I only had one incident this last trip and it was because my girl had a blouse that was revealing in the back. I had to run up to my room and grab her a jacket. Once she put it on, security was fine and we went on with our day. The staff is very friendly at the Presidente. Be nice to them and they will return the favor threefold. Also remember to tip the maids a couple bucks a day.

Agree with PacoLoco,

Californicationdude's Colombiana is a very sweet chica. He's a lucky bastard. I had a great time with both of them on my last trip. Too bad my Tica novia went ballastic otherwise we could have gone out together for dinner one night.

I need a new "NOVIA!"

Speaking of Presidente.. What happened to all the cool bartendars? They're all gone!! I stopped in at the rail on two visits and the place seemed like it was missing something. I ended up talking to a gringo from Atlanta about Costa Rica and all it has to offer, including working-chicas, for about an hour. I don't know, but to me Presidente doesn't seem the same as before.

YO T. P.

Yeah, there has been a shake up at the Pres in the bar and dining area. I missed seeing a couple of bar waitresses and I understand that their best food server, Yami, is no longer there. Staff changes happen a lot as you well know in the bar-restaurant business.....especially in CR.

Daniel did inform me that a new restaurant manager is in training......I sure hope he is good because he has some big shoes to fill and the News Cafe is certainly not up to par.

I noticed the Cafe was having serious problems a couple weeks ago, service was bad especially in the mornings. Saw one couple get up and walk out after not getting waited on. Practically every morning I had to get my own condiments, silverware, they didn't even keep salt and pepper on all the tables. It didn't bother me much, I just made myself at home and knew where things were but knowing a little about the restaurant bus. the basics had gone to hell and that can always be blamed on management- or lack thereof.

Circus I did hear they had a new policy, no more free napkins will be given away to street vagrants.
