I had a friend of some friends in Chicago hit town this week and looking ideas to get out of the gulch and find a ¨wife¨. So, tonight I took him on a tour of various areas where you can wine, dine and dance with regular Ticas. While it is always better around here on a Friday or Saturday night, we succeeded in finding some action at various areas on the Sunday night of Easter week...a nortoriously slow time for social activity unless you are at the beaches.

After meeting in the gulch and getting our bearings...we headed out to Escazu. It was a beautiful full moon night over San Jose, and with the moon roof open...put us in a carefree mood for seeing the city even on this quiet night. After driving by a number of restaurants and bars in Escazu that is usually teeming with action but not tonight...we finally turned into Il Paninos which is behind a strip mall on the Santa Ana side of Escazu which has a number of restaurants and a couple bars. Il Panino is a ¨yuppy¨ type `place that has a great wine bar, upscale atmosphere, and good light appetizers and dinner fare. We ordered up a couple Merlots and a cheese and bread plate...had to play like we were yuppies in paradise. The place was packed with model looking women...and 50/50 mix of couples and girls only tables. Wine bars everywhere seem to be like this place. The best tables are out front on the open air terrace, but that was full and we ended up sitting at a small table we chose between 2 groups of attractive young women. We ended up oggling a number of girls who gave us open glances, but this is a game here...and alot of people seemed to know each other from the neighborhood. Since my buddy didnt speak spanish, he was a bit reluctant to go chatting about the room...but it could have been done. A table of 8 young ladies celebrating a birthday or something were flirting with us...but I didnt feel like leading the charge into a table full of girls being the only spanish speaker...I WAS TIRED from a day at the beach in Limon. But...my buddy was happy to see this other side of San Jose.

From there we hit the road and went to the opposite side of town closer to my house...San Pedro. The disco at the front entrance of San Pedro mall had a line of about 150 people waiting to get in! I guess everyone is celebrating easter in the younger set. ON the other side of the street from there behind the Burger King are 3 other bars that cater to the university crowd. They also looked quite crowded for a Sunday night. We continued up to San Pedro and left down ¨bar alley¨ that leads to University of Costa Rica. The first large bar on the left was PACKED like sardines...loud music...party persons delight. Once again...I was too tired to dive into that kind of crowd, but my bud was impressed with the masses of people in the street in this area on a Sunday night. If I was in the mood, we could have raped and pillaged some college poontang tonight. We ended up at Bar Rio which is my neighborhood bar back towards town from the San Pedro Mall on the south (left hand) side. There were a number of people there...again a a couple groups of girls who were approachable. We chatted with three ladies I´d say in their mid to late 20s who apparently all worked in a bank together. One spoke very good English, and my bud was able to score her phone number (though we wont know until tomorrow if it is a valid one). Women here dont like to say no or be rude to your face NORMALLY, so sometimes if you ask them for their number they will give you a fake one. My goal is to always get them to OFFER it to me...but some nights like tonight...I just didnt have the energy to conive...or even support my friend very well...cause you see...I was truly looking forward to getting home to my lovely Colombiana. I MUST be in love.

All in all, I think we found some good action on a relatively obscure quiet night...and I just share this to encourage some of you GFE seekers to get out of the gulch and meet the rest of the Ticas in Costa Rica.

Extremos (I think they actually rock on some SUndays late night...but I havent been there in a long while...but it is a wild place for local party girls)

thanks for the information. i've always wondered where else to go (especially on a Sunday night) while in CR other than "El Pueblo" to party outside of the gulch area.

This information will be very helpful when I go to CR in a few weeks.

My luck has been with "shop" girls. Chicas I meet working in pharmacias, department stores or supermarkets. I've even met one or two in the plaza in front of the Gran Hotel. Oh, I've also met one or two playing cards in the casinos but I suspect that these wouldn't qualify as non pros.

Where is Extremos?

Extremos is in the Plaza Comercio Central as you head towards Desamparados from downtown. Dont know the specific address...just know where it is Many taxis will know where to find it. Its a late night haunt and some nights mostly a black crowd. Hit and miss based on the night...

Back in January my friend and I had success at a club called Ebony 56 which is in the el Pueblo disctech district. I posted a more detailed report several weeks ago. In fact, we met several girls that night and were not very aggressive in our pursuit because we had been to MPs earlier that day. It is not too difficult to meet legit women in San Jose.

I don't look for non-pros as they are looking for something I don't want to give. That is a relationship. I'm there for fun and believe me it's cheaper to pay for it.

In the infamous words of Charlie Sheen, I don't pay to have sex with them, I pay them to leave.

Snooky...I was thinking the same thing. Not to knock this post, I think it is a fascinating subject. And I do admit that while I have never scored with a straight non working girl, I have tried a few times and never connected.

I have always wanted to go to El Pueblo and make a stab at normal girls...but then I realize a few things:

1) At the Blue Marlin, and a few other places...the fish practically JUMP on my hook. It just becomes more work than I need to try and get a normal girl to do the same.

2) As snooky points out, they want a relationship. That is the last thing on my mind.

3) While it would be cool to get some for free from a non working girl....the emotional hangups that will go along with that get in the way really fast.

4) I have a book full of phone numbers from babes that are fun, like me, want to screw, and don't cost me much. Why not just call one of them?

5) Most of the time....a table full of 4 to 8 Chicas having fun together is probably not the best place for ME to pick up a chica. What hot babe will be seen by her friends, leaving with an old 50 year old dude? The hot babes I want would probably NOT want me. Now...at the Blue Marlin....the hot babes I want are hanging all over me.

So while it is a nice fantasy....I think I will stick with my favorite fishin hole.

Exactly! I truly treasure my 'black book'. The only problem is that many chicas change phone numbers a couple times a year for one reason or another. Sometimes they can't afford or forget about the phone bill, their
service gets suspended and/or cancelled, and they get new numbers.

Around eleven in the morning, dress up in nice slacks and shirt, and head down to la avenida central near the banks around the green space.

Just sort of hang out, sit or stand, and wait for the ladies who work in the banks that come out for lunch or break. Just sort of watch and wait. It is all about eye contact. If they return your look and smile with their eyes, then approach them.

Do not press the issue, just be friendly. I have met many nice Tica's this way. Never, and I mean never tell them you are staying in the Gulch when they ask. If pressed I will say the Aurola Holiday Inn.


I have met many nice ladies this way, and I try to make a dinner date. I would say that more times than not, after dinner we end going out for drinks and or dinner, and end up at their place. First date is way different than with gringas.

Another great place to meet local ladies in a stress free atmosphere is near the Museo Nacional de Costa Rica.

Just head down from the delRey to avenida central and take a left, head up the hill and on the right, a large yellow stucco building is the Mueso Nacional. If you have not gone in, it is the best 200c investment you can make. Around 4:30 take a left out of the main enterence and stroll up about 100 yards and just hang out. There will be a stream of ladies getting off work from some of the government buildings. Just hang and watch, and smile. It is amazing just how friendly these ladies are. I have met a few keepers this way as well.

And for me, they all have the hallmark of the true non working lady, the bush.

Dman...truly excellent advice! Most Ticas will go out of their way to help
you. Also, many of them are somewhat shy at first, but indeed, they are
usually very friendly. It's quite a difference from most of the gringas in the
US. Can you imagine going up to a gringa in the US, and after a short
conversation, asking for her phone number? In CR, while sometimes
they will give you a fake number, as they want to be polite, most often
they will give you their actual number.

Sometimes they may not want you to see where they live. I've been with
three or four Ticas that were embarrassed about where/how they lived,
and did not want me to see the squalor of their residences. And it some
cases, it truly was squalor. No refrigerator, a hotplate to cook on,
mattresses on the floor, a cement floor, corrugated tin walls and roof, etc.
