Well, I guess I am severly outnumbered here. Therefore, I wouldn't say that dressing like the girl next door is niche marketing. Seems that look appeals to the masses. Therefore, maybe dressing like a total ho-bag is niche marketing.
Seriously though. I know a chica who has worked the HDR for a long time. Successful pro. Had a client tell her to loose the makeup and dress more conservatively. He liked her better that way. She took his advice. Next thing you know I hear, "I'm tired of going to work, walking around all night and not making any money." I just had to be honest with her and tell her to go back to the make up, slut bras, bare midriff and in your face cleavage. Guess what, business got alot better. I still think alot of it boils down to attitude. Would you rather have a totally hot, slutty looking girl who gives dynamite service or a plain Jane, conservatively dressed "girl next door" chica who gives dynamite service? I'm betting if you were being honest you would say the hot slutty look all things being equal. I think the perception is (and understandably so) that the hot slutty look is a lousy performer and the sweet, innocent look will go the extra mile. Maybe yes, maybe no. But, I really think if all things were equal and you were being honest with yourself you would pick the hot slut. I could be wrong but..I doubt it.
