Maybe the guy that did this in Jaco thought he saw her in the BB the night before? Confused her with someone else? Anyway, no way to stop people from doing this and ..........

I kind of think that those who would make this mistake would make it regardless of the warnings and those that wouldn't just won't.

In one way or another, we've all done stupid things in life so I feel a bit guilty complaining about the behavior of others..... just got to shake your head, forget about it and move on really. I just realize that no matter how much anyone tells another to behave, there will always be those that just can't help themselves.

I do understand that and it is almost trying to help the poor guys as much as defending the chica. Because, if the wrong guy sees this happen or is told by the chica, said tourist could end up in a bad situation! Hope it never happens when I'm in the Monkey Bar with her. I'm not a very understanding type of guy and take care of the chicas that work with me.

I am glad someone brought this point up it about time. When I was in Brazil in March I meet some newbies to the sport outside of one of the local banks on my way to eat. The idiots unable to speak or read the atm asked the next girl who clearly looked like a office 9 to 5 young women for help.As they did not take my word that the atm machine would not take there card since I did my homework before going, and knew only a few bank atms in the city would accept there US cards. The girl being nice helps them and told them in english you know this is really stupid how do you someone would not ask for another transation and take money from your account. The guys reply we waited until we saw someone honest. LOL in RIO that was the best and funnest thing I heard the whole trip right after this is my first time doing this I am new to this yeah sure me too. So the guys then thanked the very wonderful lady for her help by saying hey we are on vacation her and we are going to HELP(A WELL KNOWN WHORE BAR) will you be there tonight. Eventhough I was not with these guys just hanging out waiting for my friend I was so embarrased to be a US citzen.I then turn around to ask the guy hey how would you feel if I was in need, and your sister helped me and to thank her I ask her are you a whore, and if so I would love to Phuck you tonight because idiot that's what you just did. The dumbass then walks away, and said she wasnt that cutie anyway.

I apologize to the young women for my country man stupidity, and off to get her a cab home she declines saying she lives only 2 blocks away. We talk, and I find out she went to school here in the states and works for a bank.I tell her so do I and we exchange cards. She ask me where I was staying and I tell her on Nossa senorita, and find out she is not to far away.I tell her that I would love to have dinner not as a pick up just so I dont have to eat alone, and she agree to. I call my friend who was still with his girl from the afternoon as I am waiting on him to eat tells me go ahead without him.

Had a wonderful meal with her, and she took it upon herself to show me to some really cool local clubs in Ipanema. I still talk with her off and on from time to time. I know it would be dumb of me to hope that all guys would educate themselve on customs of a country before going. However if one doesnt know the customs atleast use common knowledge.

Very nice move coolhand, i see this crap ALL the time w/i travel. It makes me sick. If they want a whore, go to Help, or in CR, ZB,DR, etc.

I LOVE the BM, but when i am away from HDR, i treat the local just as i would in the states. Can you imagine walking up to a beautiful girl in Chicago, on Michigan Ave. and asking if she phukes for $70?

I remember sitting in the News Cafe watching a gringo proposition every
pretty lady who walked down Avenica Central. One after another,
the women brushed him off, as they would brush off beggars. But he
kept up his act longer than I could bear to watch -- I left.

I have seen this many times and to me its like letting the wild pigs out of the holding pen. When the U.S. society frowns on prostitution and shows pictures on TV of prostitutes in CR, this creates a mind set for some people. They think that CR women are so poor that they will work for cash to any gringo!
Just think if the U.S. made prostitution legal like Germany do you think we would have as many gringos go crazy in CR?
I noticed that CR guys don't go out flashing money to every tica and asking them for a good time. This is because to them prostituion is not big deal! How ever for the gingos its like K*ds in a candy store with the eyes wide open trying to reach for everything. :)

I agree that part of the problem comes from the "k*d in the candy store" phenomenon, but that's still no excuse.

Many of these guys are otherwise bright human beings. Presumably they have good jobs, own businesses or otherwise have wealth; they couldn't travel to C.R. if they did not.

If this is true, what happens to these guys' brains when they hit town? :?

None of them would probably pester gringas for p4p in the U.S., so are they a.) so ignorant/badly educated or b.) so racist that they think these Latinas are somehow "beneath" them ,that these gringos think they can sexually proposition any chica they meet?

My response to any gringo who is being an asshole to the locals is to smile and ask, "First time here, huh?" If they question me as to my comment, I can then make observations about their behavior. I try not to get confrontational and to treat everything with a sense of humor, but if a fellow gringo is being totally rude or obnoxious, I'll make my opinion of his behavior known.

We educate by example more than by words of course, so I hope that this choir that is being preached to will remember always to be good Boy Scouts and to remember that each of us is an ambassador from our home countries.

There's an upside to all of this. Yes, the economic realities of Central America work to our benefit. For those seeking "real romance," it's not hard to find, but Costa Rica has certain rules and norms for "courting" that must be followed.

My dear old Mom always told me, "Life is a two-way street," which applies here. It's down to the Golden Rule. Treat her with the same respect you desire for yourself.

Simple, so why do so many guys just not "get it?"

Very well spoken. I think some just think they are above the girls because they have a "cien" in their pocket and they think they can get any local girl in their room. I see it everywere. I was just in Vegas, and these 60 yr olds, fat and ugly, would walk up to any good looking girl (most not working) and proposition her. I was like "man, u just don't get it".

This is THE reason we are "ugly americans"!

Why is it that those of us who fall into the above category are always used an example of bad behavior. Generally if you are lucky enough to reach the "old age" of 60, you theoretically, at least, have learned from the mistakes you made when you were younger. I'm guessing you will find less asshole behavior from the above group than you will from the 40 year olds who think they know it all, done it all, and are God's gift.

In addition most of us have a few more bucks in our pockets because we've "like" used what we have wisely :-)

El Lamero, i am sorry if i disrespected you or anyone else. I have 2 K*ds, and the one thing i have always stressed to them is "respect your elders".

BUT, you know the type i was referring to. The mofia looking/acting type. The guy who thinks he is above EVERYONE.

Hola amigos,
Back to the original subject about all CR girls not being a hooker. I have a non mongering gringo buddy in SJ with a tica novia who wants me to meet her amiga who is a 38 yo virgin,, imagine that. She is never married, educated, and still lives with her parents in tres rios. It seems hard to imagine the two extremes at play here, hookers and virgins. Apparently there still are a few girls who wait althought at 38 thats a long time to wait. Changing the subject a bit I also have one of my best freinds here of whom thinks I travel to CR for nature/ eco things that at 53 is still a virgin. He is very religious and one of the nicest guys you ever want to meet and not bad looking and has more success than me in getting first dates but even the church girls we go out with wont date him for more than a few times. He is actually proud to be a virgin where I think he should shut up about it. I have tried to talk to him to no avail. He will in all probability go to his grave a virgin. I have to be careful as to my advice as I lead a double life in this respect and have one set of freinds that can never know and another set I can talk about CR with. So,, yes,, not all girls in CR are hookers... Junkyard dog

On a trip 3 yrs ago with my CR virgin buddy he hooked up with a newbie KL gal.

They spent as much time in the inglesias and at mass as they did in the rack.

I was his translator and she said "Do the right thing" After a week of her company.

He did the right thing ( a C - note a day for TLN } and he has been doing pennance ever after since confessing in the US.

I think he is painting St. Patricks in NY as I type. :P :D
